Ottawa Personal Injury Lawyers David Hollingsworth and Associates. I was out visiting a client in Rockland today and as I was driving around Rockland. I couldn’t help but notice how many people were out on their bicycles . That’s great for so so many reasons. We are all excited for spring to arrive and with spring comes more pedestrians, cyclist, motorcycles, ATV etc. I wanted to take a moment and remind everyone of a few things you can do to help keep yourself safe and our Ottawa roads safe.
-The Ottawa Police have a great website that offers the following tips:
-Make sure your helmet is on and fits properly.
-Your bicycle helmet should be snug and not move around.
-Your bicycle helmet should sit two finger-widths above your brows.
-The straps of your helmet should form a V below and around both ears.
-You should not be able to get more than 2 fingers between the chin strap and your chin.
-Ottawa and Ontario cyclists must wear a helmet by law if they are under 18 years of age.
-Do not wear a hat under a helmet. This is not safe.
-Helmets only reduce personal injuries, they do not prevent accidents from happening.
-Do not use a helmet that has already been in an accident.
-All bicycle helmets need to be CSA, CPSC, Snell B-95, or a N-94 certification sticker.
-Remember that motorists and cyclists share the roadways.
-Cyclists must also follow the rules of the road. The Ontario Highway Traffic Act, the Ottawa Traffic and Ottawa Parking Bylaw state that cyclists:
-Stop at all stop signs and stop at red lights, and properly signal any changes in lanes.
-Ottawa cyclists must remain on the right side of the road
-Do not ride your bicycle on sidewalks.
-Have a bell, gong, or horn on your bicycle.
-If you are riding at night, make sure your bicycle is well lit.
Please be safe out there. Ottawa has had far too many bicycle accidents and we all need to obey the rules of the road. Have a great and happy spring on your bicycle Ottawa !

Too many children admitted to CHEO with head injuries. Come on Ottawa, please wear a helmet !
Head Injury Lawyers Ottawa Ontario- David Hollingsworth and Associates. Well Ottawa, we still find ourselves in a winter wonderland and more snow is coming. This is certainly not the time to let up on winter safety. I wanted to remind every one of the dangers of not wearing a helmet. Please also ensure your children are well protected when they are skating and tobogganing. In 2012, the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario treated 1,270 children with a head injury, 41 of these head injuries were due to a tobogganing accident. These accidents are going to happen but with the proper protection, these injuries can be eliminated. It may seem extreme to some but trust me: as an Ottawa personal injury lawyer I meet daily with clients who have a brain injury and their lives have been altered forever. If there is a step you can take to protect your head or your child’s head; why wouldn’t you ? I urge EVERYONE to wear a helmet when participating in any activity that could lead to a head injury. David Hollingsworth and Associates-I’m so pleased with this initiative. The Ottawa Public Health and CHEO have joined forces to promote the use of helmets during winter activities. Ottawa’s neurosurgeon Dr. Michael Vassilyadi attended the family day event at Ottawa’s city hall family day skating party to talk to parents to lead by example and wear their helmets ! He talked about how parents need to lead by example and how they are ambassadors and that kids look up to their parents and copy what they do. I couldn’t agree more. We need to practice what we preach. Dr. Vassilyadi also spoke about how more families are taking the necessary precautions and wearing helmets for winter activities, such as skating and tobogganing. Dr. Vassilyadi also stated that there has been a decline in preventable head injuries in the Ottawa area, stating that there hadn’t been one surgical head injury until mid-January this season. While one is too many at least we are moving in the right direction. I hope these messages reach others and before we know it wearing a helmet for winter activities will be an automatic response for everyone. Lead by example and put your helmet on ! If not for you, do it for your children.

Boy struck while standing beside his snowmobile resulting in severe head injury.
Ottawa Personal Injury Lawyers David Hollingsworth . Sadly, a 16 year old male remains in critical condition in Ottawa’s CHEO trauma centre after a terrible accident on 8th Line Road and Glenwood drive, close to Metcalfe. the accident happened last night around 10 pm. The teen had been standing beside his snowmobile at the side of the road when he was hit by another vehicle and thrown several feet away. He suffered a severe head injury, as well as serious injuries to his body and legs. He remains in critical condition at CHEO. What a terrible thing to have happened to this young boy. My thoughts are with his family at this very stressful time and I hope he is able to recover fully from this awful accident.
It has been reported that the driver who hit this young boy fled the accident scene. He has since been tracked down but Ottawa police are still investigating. If you have any information that could help, please contact the Ottawa police at 613-236-1222 ext 2481.

Ottawa accident highway 416 and Fallowfield sends one to hospital with severe head injury.
Ottawa Personal Injury Lawyers David Hollingsworth and Associates…An Ottawa accident early this morning on highway 416, close to Fallowfield, has resulted in a young 19-year-old woman being rushed to hospital. Ottawa rescue crews arrived at the Ottawa accident scene at approximately 12:30 am and found the driver alone in the car with serious head injuries.Thankfully, they were able to remove her from the vehicle and rushed to the hospital , where she remains in stable condition. My thoughts are with her and her family at this very difficult time.

3 injured rushed to Ottawa Trauma Centre after OC Transpo bus accident.

Ottawa Accident Lawyers David Hollingsworth and Associates…A terrible Ottawa accident occurred last night at around 11:00pm. As a result, a woman was rushed to an Ottawa hospital with a life threatening head injury. The accident involved a car and an OC Transpo bus. 3 people were in the car at the time of the accident and all 3 suffered serious injuries. A 21 year old woman was found unconscious and needed to be extricated. She was rushed to Ottawa’s Trauma Centre in critical condition. The driver of the vehicle , along with another and passenger were also transported to the hospital and were last reported to be in stable condition. My thoughts go out to all 3 accident victims and their families at this very difficult time.

Did you witness this accident ? Ottawa Police investigating pedestrian accident Bank and Gladstone and need our help.
An Ottawa accident has left a 62 year old man is serious yet thankfully stable condition. He was walking when he was hit at the corner of Bank street, close to Gladstone yesterday afternoon at around 4:00pm. Ottawa rescue crews arrived to the accident scene and found out that a car was travelling at a speed of 50km/hour when it hit the pedestrian.The impact of the crash was so severe, it sent the pedestrian flying and he landed close to 10 feet away from where he was hit. It was reported that the driver had been driving approximately 50 KM/hr when they hit the pedestrian, send them flying a good 10 feet. This impact caused a severe head injury , which was thankfully stabilized en route to Ottawa’s Trauma Centre. Ottawa Police are urging anyone with information that relates to this Ottawa accident to please come forward with any available information.
