Tragically, a 31-year-old Navan woman was killed Wednesday morning after being hit by a dump truck on Navan Road near Orleans Boulevard. Police closed Navan Road for several hours between Pagé Road and Orleans Boulevard while they investigated the accident, which happened about 9:20 a.m. close to an OC Transpo bus stop near 2878 Navan Rd. Insp. John Maxwell said the woman had just got off the bus at the bus stop and was trying to cross Navan Road, likely heading home, when she was struck. Paramedic spokesman J.P. Trottier said the woman had no vital signs when paramedics arrived and they immediately began trying to resuscitate her, both at the scene and en route to hospital. Trottier said she suffered critical head injuries and fractures to her legs and one arm. Two blue and white BFI Canada dump trucks were pulled over at the scene, a pair of black sandals lying on the road between them. At about 10:30 a.m. investigators in neon green vests spoke with the male driver of one of the trucks. About the same time, two BFI staff arrived but had no comment, saying they didn’t know anything yet. Neighbour Auguste Gauthier said people speed on the 70-kilometre-per-hour road all the time. ”It’s ridiculous. It was going to happen. It’s going to happen again if they don’t do something,” he said..
