Ottawa accident highway 174 Jeanne D’Arc exit, sinkhole swallows Juan Pedro Unger’s car.

Ottawa Personal Injury Lawyers David Hollingsworth and Associates… A strange Ottawa accident occurred yesterday.  Juan Pedro Unger.  Initially thought it was a newly paved patch of the highway and then realized it was an  actual hole in the road. He tried to avoid it but couldn’t and the hole swallowed up his car. Quick thinking on his part saved his life.  He realized that if he didn’t escape immediately, he could be crushed by another vehicle or sink lower into the sinkhole. The Ottawa accident occurred on the eastbound Jeanne d’Arc off-ramp of 174 just after 5 p.m. yesterday afternoon.

Unger believes he was underground for approximately  30 seconds when he started hearing people calling from above. He opened the door and managed to climb out of the hole. The water was flowing beneath him and it was unsure of how deep the water was running. Thankfully a couple of men helped pulled him up to safety.

It was reported that Unger’s car had fallen into a 3.6 meter-wide storm sewer pipe located beneath the sinkhole. Eastbound traffic on 174 continues  to be diverted at Blair Road.  If you can avoid this area, you should as it  is bumper to bumper.  I am so happy to report that Juan Pedro Unger suffered minor injuries in what could have been a much worse situation.
