My thoughts are with the Young family. What a tragic event. I hope their family finds strength in one another at this time…David Young and Riley Jay, please rest in peace.
OTTAWA — A 63-year-old man from Markham and his 12-year-old granddaughter have been identified as the victims of a single-car crash Friday afternoon near Alexandria. David Young died at the scene after his northbound car left County Road 34 at the intersection of County Road 24, drove into the westbound ditch, and struck a tree, OPP Sgt. Kristine Rae said in a release. His granddaughter, Riley Jay, also of Markham, was pronounced dead later at Cornwall Hospital. A woman and a girl, whose identities have not been released, were taken to Glengarry Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Rae said. Investigators say they believe Young was trying to pass another vehicle when his car crossed the road and entered the ditch at about 3:15 p.m. Anyone with information is asked to call the Stormont Dundas Glengarry OPP at 613-534-2223 or 1-888-310-1122. Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact the SDG OPP at 613-534-2223 or 1-888-310-1122.
