Perth accident Highway 7 results in death and personal injuries.

Ontario Injury Lawyers… Sadly, a Perth , Lanark area woman died after  her van was struck  pulling out of a driveway on Highway 7 yesterday.  Lanark police reported that the terrible accident happened at around 4:30 p.m. Lanark police reported that a pickup truck was westbound on Highway 7, close to Gamles Side Road,  just 10 km west of Perth, when it collided with a van that was coming from a driveway. The driver of the van, an 80 year old woman from the Perth sadly died at the accident scene. The driver of the truck , a 49-year-old man from Oakville Ontario, was thankfully uninjured in the Lanark accident; however, 2 of his passengers were: a 48 year old woman and a young teenage girl. Both injured passengers were rushed to the Perth Hospital by ambulance with personal injuries. Two other girls were in the truck but thankfully were uninjured. Ontario Police are investigating the accident.  My thoughts go out to the 2 injured victims and the friends and family of the deceased 80 year old woman…

Ontario snowmobile accidents and safety hand signals: Ottawa lawyer David Hollingsworth

Ottawa Personal Injury Lawyer, Ontario Personal Injury Lawyers David Hollingsworth…With all this new white fluffy snow we have in Ontario, I know that avid snowmobilers will be out on their snowmobiles this weekend and for the rest of the winter season.  There are an incredible amount of Ontario snowmobile accidents each year and I cam across some great information posted on snowmobilers.org website. It’s a great site that shares all sorts of valuable information for snowmobile driving in Ontario. Please, if you are driving a snowmobile, drive the speed limit, stay off of questionable ice  and never drive if you have been drinking.  Most of all, enjoy the season safely !  Snowmobile hand signals:
Giving clear, easy-to-see hand signals are so important to safe snowmobile riding in Ontario. Be sure to never make hand signals subtle, always make clear, deliberate signals. Be sure that other snowmobile drivers behind you can see your signals. Hand signals are a very reliable way to communicate while riding.

stop Stop:  Your arm raised from the shoulder and extended
straight up over your head with palm of your hand flat.

stop Left Turn: Your left arm extended straight out from your shoulder and pointing in the direction of the turn.

stop Right Turn: Bend your left arm at your elbow to shoulder height; with your hand pointing straight up and your palm flat, your arm  makes a right angle.

stop Oncoming Sleds: Guide all snowmobile to the right while pointing to the trail over your head. This way your signal can be seen.
stop Slowing:  Your left arm extended out and down from the side of your bodywith a downward flapping motion of hand to signal warning or caution.
stop Sleds Following: Your arms raised, your elbow bent with your thumb pointing backward, in hitchhiking motion move your arm forward to backward over your shoulder.
stop Last Sled in Line: Your left arm raised at your shoulder height, your elbow bent and your forearm vertical with your hand clenched in a fist.

Ottawa weather expected : heavy wet snowfall up to 15 cm. Please drive safely!, Ottawa Lawyer David Hollingsworth

Ottawa Weather.  Ottawa Personal Injury Lawyer David Hollingsworth….Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for the Ottawa area tonight night, with up to 15 centimetres of wet snow coming our way overnight. A winter storm watch was upgraded to the snowfall warning early today for the area from Brockville Gatineau, including the City of Ottawa. The snowstorm is expected to start with light rain in the afternoon then turning to wet snow.  They say there’s potential for up to 15 centimetres of wet snow by tomorrow morning, with the highest amounts coming along the Ontario/Quebec border and smaller amounts in the St. Lawrence River Valley. There will then be a sharp drop in temperatures, but Environment Canada says there’s not much risk of the flash freeze. Please try your best to stay off the roads.  If you need to be out, drive slowly and safely.

Here are a few things to keep in mind when driving in icy conditions:

  • Exercise extreme caution after a long dry spell.
  • Allow for more travel time.
  • Brake earlier and with less force
  • Stay toward the middle of the road to avoid deep standing puddles.
  • Don’t use cruise control.
  • If you see a large puddle up ahead, drive around it or choose a different route.
  • Don’t attempt to cross running water.
  • After you cross a puddle, tap on your brake pedal lightly to dry off some of the water on your rotors.
  • Turn on your headlights
  • Watch out for pedestrians.
  • If it’s raining so hard that you can’t see the road or the car in front of you, pull over and wait it out.
  • Track the car ahead of you.
  • Give a truck or bus extra distance.
  • Defog your windows.
  • If you start to hydroplane, don’t brake suddenly or turn the wheel, or you might spin into a skid.

Ottawa Lawyers: Ottawa Police aim to reduce Ottawa accidents by targeting stop sign runners and speeding.

Ottawa Lawyers David Hollingsworth, Ottawa Law Firms….Ottawa Police will have stop sign runners and motorists who speed in construction zones on their radar during the Ottawa’s Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) this month. Disobeying stop signs – including rolling stops – is a serious issue on Ottawa roads and can contribute to the risk of Ottawa accidents.  In 2009, 1,667 Ottawa collisions at stop sign-controlled intersections resulted in one death and 462 personal injuries – 17 of them life-threatening and critical personal injuries. As for speeding in Ottawa construction zones, provincial legislation allows for the doubling of fines for Ontario motorists caught exceeding posted speed limits in construction zones when workers are present.  Ottawa Police will be applying this legislation with a zero tolerance approach this month. In Ottawa, between 2007 and 2009, 526 Ottawa accidents occurred in construction zones resulting in 114 personal injuries, eight of which were serious personal injuries.  One construction worker was actually struck and injured on the job by a motorist. In 2003, Public Works and Ottawa Public Health – and the Ottawa Police Service developed the IRSP to provide a comprehensive approach in promoting road safety in Ottawa.

As an Ottawa accident lawyer serving eastern Ontario, I fully support the Ottawa police and this initiative that will hopefully reduce further personal injuries and Ottawa accidents.   Be safe out there !

Ottawa Boating Accident Lawyer David Hollingsworth- Ottawa, Ontario Personal Injury Lawyers- It looks like it is going to be a gorgeous weekend out there in Ottawa and eastern Ontario. Please remember to ride and boat safely to avoid injury and harm!

A review of water accident statistics, can remind us all just how often aquatic accidents occur each year. In 2008, there were 4,789 accidents recorded on the water involving boats and jet (with personal watercraft accidents totaling at 23% of that figure). Furthermore, there were 45 deaths on jet skis (17 of which were drowning death’s). I recommend to all accident victims to first and foremost, treat their injuries as soon as possible. Check yourself into a hospital, and make sure you and your family are safe.
