Many people are biking to work , school and just about anywhere on their bicycles. Unfortunately, this also means an increased chance of cycling accidents in the Ottawa area. Sadly, Ottawa bicycle accidents have already begun and a 17-year-old teenage girl was rushed to an Ottawa hospital in serious condition with a severe head injury. She had been biking in Kanata this morning, when she was hit by a car as she crossed the street. The Kanata bicycle accident took place at Shirley’s Brook Drive close Kinross Private early this morning . When Ottawa rescue crews arrived, the young girl seemed confused , which is a sign of a closed head injury. A head injury can be a devastating and life changing injury. I wish this young girl a full recovery and I hope she is able to completely get through this accident. My thoughts are with her, her family and her friends at this incredible stressful time.

Ottawa Personal Injury Lawyer David Hollingsworth and Associates..Sadly, two 2 year old toddlers were rushed to the Children’s hospital of Eastern Ontario this morning after being hit by a car on Terry Fox and Hazeldean in Kanata. The Kanata accident occurred at McElroy Drive and Rickey Place just before 8 am . One of the toddlers suffered a severe head injury, an injury to her arm and internal injuries. She remains at CHEO in serious but thankfully stable condition. The second toddler suffered minor bruises and remains in stable condition. My thoughts go out these 2 families at this very stressful time. I hope that these little girls are able to FULLY recover from this terrible accident.

The latest Ottawa Road Safety Report reported that there were 15000 Ottawa accidents last year in the Ottawa area. The number of Ottawa accidents that occurred at 5:00 on Fridays was 1400 and 1300 Ottawa accidents occurred at 6:00. p.m.
The report indicated that in 2011, there were 2600 Ottawa accidents on a Friday and 2500 Ottawa accidents on a Thursday. The report also indicated that December and January were the months with highest rate of accidents in the Ottawa area and April was the lowest.
There are a number of reasons why Ottawa accidents may increase at certain times and during certain months. The bottom line is at all times we all need to drive as safely as possible. We need to focus on the road and our surroundings. Please drive safely !

Ottawa Injury Lawyers David Hollingsworth..3 Ottawa residents are in an Ottawa hospital after an accident in Kanata Saturday morning. Ottawa rescue crews arrived at the Ottawa accident scene at the intersection of Richmond Road and Stonehaven Drive in Kanata , early Saturday morning. A 20-year-old man was extricated and suffered a serious head injury, back injury, arm and leg injuries. 40-year-old female was also freed from her car and suffered a serious head injury, chest pain and lacerations to her face. A 10 year old boy with a neck injury and possible hip dislocation was also rushed to an Ottawa hospital for treatment. Ottawa paramedics brought the man to an Ottawa hospital in critical condition, with the woman and boy in serious but stable condition. My thoughts go out to everyone involved in this accident and I hope they are able to fully recover from these injuries.

It was just starting to feel like spring and yes,…you guessed it…we are expecting close to 15 centimetres of snow today. Get your shovels out and get ready. Please make sure your walkways are clear and as safe as possible for pedestrians coming onto your property. As a property owner, you are responsible for making your property as safe as possible.
If you are planning on driving, please slow down, take the extra time to arrive safely. Winter driving conditions are very different. All vehicles take much longer to stop on snowy and icy roads. You may not see the ice but it could be there. Absolutely do not use your cruise control in wet, snowy or icy conditions. If your vehicle skids or hydroplanes, cruise control may cause your car to accelerate, which gives you less control and will impact on your reaction time and the ability to control your car. Slow down and leave yourself lots of time to stop. Giver yourself more time than usual between you and other vehicles. If you need to stop, brake gently to avoid skidding. If your wheels lock up, ease off slightly from the brake. Always drive with your headlights on. Even during the day. This gives you the best chance of being seen. Always keep your lights and windshield clean. It is safest to drive in low gears. Bridges, overpasses and side roads will freeze first in inclement weather, so use extra caution. Avoid passing any vehicles when driving in challenging weather. Its just too risky and drivers have limited visibility.
Most of all, use common sense. Just keep in mind that icy, wet and snowy conditions bring along a whole new set of challenges. Drive safely out there today Ottawa. Thankfully, an Ottawa police officer who was first on scene started CPR on the man and shocked him twice with the defibrillator . Ottawa Paramedics shortly after. It was reported that the man regained a pulse moments before he was rushed to The Ottawa Hospital’s Civic campus. The Ottawa car accident was likely caused by a medical event. The Ottawa accident occurred just after 6:30 a.m. on Terry Fox Drive near Hazeldean Road. The southbound lanes on Terry Fox were shut down while Ottawa police re-routed traffic through the Kanata Recreation Complex until just after 10 a.m. I hope this man recovers and I soon have some positive news to share with you…
