OTTAWA Accident Lawyer David Hollingsworth- My thoughts go out to Mr. Laguë’s family and friends. I am truly sorry for your loss. Sadly, 52-year old, Mario Laguë, died after his motorcycle was in an Ottawa car accident with an SUV near Tunney’s Pasture this morning at 7:00am, according to the Ottawa Paramedic Service. Mr. Laguë was the communications director for federal Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff. He leaves behind a wife and children.
The Ottawa accident happened at Scott Street at Parkdale Avenue. Ottawa Police have closed off Scott Street at Parkdale, Holland, Pinehurst and Lindale streets and are requesting drivers please avoid this area. The motorcyclist sustained head injury and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the SUV was taken to hospital and treated for neck and back injury. Neck and back injuries may have serious life long implications. I also wish the driver a full and speedy recovery.
Various news agencies and political figures have also expressed their condolences and thoughts on the tragic death of Mr. Laguë. The Globe and Mail writes of him as “[a] man of many talents and accomplishments.” Micheal Ignatieff states: “[he was] a valued personal advisor to me and the entire Liberal team […] A man of great integrity and spirit, Mario served his country in many capacities with honour and dignity. … [He] brought a bright light to everything he did […] My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, loved ones and the many, many friends and colleagues that knew him.” Prime Minister Stephen Harper has offered similar condolences of loss and respect. “I was very saddened to learn of the sudden and tragic passing today of Mario Laguë, Director of Communications for the Leader of the Opposition,” states the Prime Minister, “throughout a varied and distinguished career, Mr. Laguë served his country with dedication both in Canada and abroad. His numerous roles included serving as Prime Minister Paul Martin’s Director of Communications, as Quebec’s Delegate in Venezuela and in Mexico, as Canada’s Ambassador to Costa Rica, and as Assistant Secretary to Cabinet – Communications and Consultations in the Privy Council Office.” Jack Layton has joined the chorus of politicians, and lawyers in the voice of condolences. “I was deeply saddened this morning to learn of the sudden death of Mario Laguë, Director of Communications to Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff. On behalf of all New Democrats, I wish to extend my heartfelt sympathies to Mr. Laguë’s family, friends and colleagues.”
Ottawa Personal Injury Lawyer David Hollingsworth states, “I think this death goes to show that underneath all the political divisions in our society, we are ultimately all human, and all united in our human emotions of grief and tragedy – but also, more uplifting, our abilities to have strength, and courage, even amidst tragedy.”
