Ottawa Motorcycle Accident Lawyers David Hollingsworth and Associates. With the nice weather here, more and more motorcycles will be out on the roads and highway. We hope that all drivers are extra cautious and watching out for motorcycles that may be in your blind spot . Obviously motorcycles are much smaller than cars or trucks and are often more difficult to see.
Ottawa Police along with Safer Roads Ottawa and the Ontario Ministry of Transportation are working at reducing Ottawa motorcycle accidents by introducing their ”Keep an Eye Out for Motorcycles” campaign. The main messages of the campaign is for motorists to share the roads and watch out for one another. Ottawa has also announced that May will be ”Motorcycle Awareness and Safety Month” .
As a Ottawa personal injury lawyer I meet regularly with people who have been in a motorcycle accident and have become severely injured. The reality is that motorcycle drivers have much less protection and often the injuries are devastating. Both motorists and motorcyclist need to share the road and be aware of one another.
Here are a few tips for drivers when it comes to motorcycles:
- Motorcycles require full lane and are no different than other vehicles.
- Share the road
- Follow at least 2 seconds or 2 chevrons behind the vehicle in front of you.
- Most motorcycle accidents happen between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m., so be extra vigilant during these times.
- Over 1/3 of motorcycle accident happen at intersections. Be extra vigilant.
- Slow down at intersections.
- Avoid tailgating as this can be more dangerous to motorcyclists with less protection.
- Give motorcyclists enough room to change lanes. Although they are smaller, they still need room.
- Check mirrors often so you know where other vehicles are.
We can all put a little more effort into keeping our Ottawa roads a little safer. Motorcyclists and drivers have their role to play. Let’s play together and keep our Ottawa roads safe.
Ottawa motorcycle accident results in orthopedic injuries and possible head injury and spinal injury. Ottawa injury lawyer David Hollingsworth
Ottawa Personal Injury Lawyer David Hollingsworth — A terrible Ottawa motorcycle accident resulted in 2 young adults being rushed to an Ottawa hospital early this morning, after a motorcycle accident at Daly Avenue. Ottawa Paramedic treated 2 people for serious personal injuries. A young woman in her 20s was treated for serious orthopedic injuries -fractured arm and possible head injury and spinal injury. A 23-year-old man was treated for serious personal injuries including a fractured arm. Thankfully , they both were in stable condition by the time they arrived at the hospital. My thoughts are with them and their families at this very stressful time. I hope to soon be able to share some better news on their recovery.

Ottawa motorcycle accident: Funeral for Mike Jefferies and serious personal injury for Sandra Jefferies.
Ottawa Personal Injury Lawyer David Hollingsworth…update: 100s are expected to gather for a memorial service at the Biker’s Church to share wonderful stories about avid biker Mike Jefferies. His son Barry had once said he would never ride a motorcycle again but is doing what his heart tells him and that’s what his dad would have told him. Get back on the bike, and he is, in honour of his beloved father. A motorcycle procession is planned for tomorrow ( Saturday) in tribute to Mike Jefferies before his funeral.
Sadly, 54-year-old Mike Jeffries yesterday afternoon doing what he loved to do: riding his motorcycle. Mike Jefferies died after an accident on St. Laurent Boulevard, north of the Queensway shortly after 3 o’clock in the afternoon. Ottawa paramedics found him in cardiac arrest at the Ottawa motorcycle accident scene.
An off-duty paramedic, who happened to be nearby when the accident took place, managed to revive Jefferies using cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) at the scene. He later died in hospital.
Mike Jefferies’ pastor spoke highly of him as described him as generous and thoughtful. He also said they would remember Mike at a service on Thursday. Jefferies’ wife, 53-year-old Sandra Jefferies, was also on the motorcycle at the time of the Ottawa motorcycle accident. She was taken to an hospital in serious condition but was expected to be released. Ottawa police were investigating but had not made any arrests as of Saturday at about 10 p.m. Jefferies had one son, Barry, who is in his 20s. My thoughts go out to the friends and family of Mike Jeffries and I wish his wife a full recovery…..
