2 Ottawa Car Accident Innes Road results in serious personal injuries

Ontario Injury Lawyers, Ottawa Injury Lawyer David Hollingsworth…The rain outside today made driving very difficult. …Two Ottawa car accidents occurred today within hours of each other at the exact same spot on Innes Road.  My thoughts go out to everyone involved in these Ottawa accidents.  I hope they can recover fully from these personal injuries…

The first Ottawa car accident was between a minivan and a car happened in the early afternoon just east of Frank Kenny Road. The female driver of the car had to have her door cut off so she could be rescued, and the passenger side door suffered significant damage. Both drivers were taken to an Ottawa hospital to be treated for personal injuries.

Later, this afternoon at approximately 4:20 p.m., Ottawa rescue workers responded to a second Ottawa accident at nearly the same place on Innes road. According to Ottawa firefighters, the second Ottawa accident was between a car and a pickup truck, and was very similar to the first to car accident. The car sustained severe damage to the passenger side, the only one inside was the 30 year old driver who had to be extracted. She suffered very serious personal injuries including a mild head injury as well as a chest injury. The male driver of the truck sustained minor personal injuries.

With 2 Ottawa accidents occurring at the exact same spot in such a short time, I can only wonder if perhaps a review of that area needs to be done.. What are your thoughts?

Cornwall Car Accident, highway 401, Port-Hope Cobourg Accident

CORNWALL Personal Injury Lawyer David Hollingsworth, Ontario Personal Injury Lawyers.. — The Ontario Provincial Police had closed the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 in two places after two serious Ontario car accidents Monday afternoon.

In the first instance, one person was killed and three were injured in a single-vehicle crash near Long Sault, just west of Cornwall. The gender and age of the victim were not released. The driver of the vehicle and two others were taken to hospital in Cornwall.  That accident happened close to 3 p.m., and the closure at the Long Sault eastbound exit was expected to last until 7 p.m.

The second crash has forced the shutdown of the eastbound lanes in the Port Hope-Cobourg area, the OPP said. The eastbound lanes there were expected to remain closed until about 10 p.m., forcing traffic to detour onto Highway.

I am truly sorry to the family of the deceased victim and I wish for a full recovery for the other accident vicitms.

Leo and Sherri Regnier Funeral Cornwall, Regnier Trust Fund, Ottawa Memorial Thursday

Cornwall- Ontario Personal Injury Lawyer David Hollingsworth…It is with sadness that I share with you that  Leo and Sherrie Regnier were put to rest today in Cornwall.  Sadly, the 3 young daughters bid farewell to their parents at an emotional double funeral. My thoughts continue to be with this family and these 3 very young girls, who are now orphans..I hope that the Regnier family remains close in supporting each other…

About 150 people attended an intimate service for Leo Paul Regnier and his wife, Sherrie, who were tragically killed when they were run down at a downtown Ottawa bus stop on Sept. 16. The couple leaves behind three daughters, aged 9, 13 and 15. A slideshow of photos played as their oldest daughter, Serah, pulled out her guitar and paid tribute to her parents with several songs she wrote following their tragic deaths — the most recent written only yesterday. “When she started playing, the room got quiet. Everybody just stood around her and listened to her,” said Ron Lacelle, Paul’s brother. “I know what it’s like to lose a mom and dad, but not at the same time. I can’t even imagine what these girls are going through.” In eulogies, the couple was remembered as being full of life. They were parents who cherished their 3 daughters more than anything else. Mourners were told Paul and Sherrie wouldn’t want those who knew them to be consumed by grief. Rather, the couple would want family and friends to celebrate the lives they lived. Paul was remembered as a dedicated family man, who shared his love of music with his daughters. Meanwhile, Sherrie was remembered as an avid reader, who always had her nose in a good book.

The couple’s relationship has been described as a true love story. The Regniers met when they were kids in Cornwall. They later fell in love and got married. The couple, who moved to Ottawa a decade ago, was out on a date when they were fatally struck by a sports car earlier this month. Paul died instantly. Sherrie died of critical injuries in hospital. The Regnier girls are currently staying with family, but it’s just the beginning of a long road ahead. Their parents didn’t have a will, and nobody was ever selected to be their legal guardian if tragedy hit. “There’s nothing on paper, that’s why we have to get lawyers. Nobody can adopt anybody until applications are put in. Like, we’re not even at the first step of that, we’re just trying to take care of this,” Lacelle told CTV Ottawa on Monday. Although the legal process could be lengthy, Lacelle insists the girls won’t be separated. A 20-year-old Ottawa man is charged in connection with the deadly collision. Simon Banke is facing various offences, including criminal negligence causing death and stunt driving. A trust fund has been set up for the couple’s children. Donations can be made to the Regnier Girls Trust Fund, account number 24448095809, at any Bank of Montreal location. A memorial will also be held in Ottawa on Thursday at Tudor Hall on North Bowesville Road at 6:30 p.m.

Ontario Driving Safety Tips: Ottawa Car Accident Lawyer David Hollingsworth

I came across this information on the Canadian Safety Council Website and thought I would share it with you.  Ottawa Accident Lawyer David Hollingsworth, Personal Injury Lawyer for Eastern Ontario…More fatalities occur on Canadian roads during the summer months than at any other time of year, including the winter holiday season. Alcohol, fatigue and aggressive driving are often implicated in these tragedies. Whether you’re out for a day trip, travelling to the cottage or on a cross-country holiday, the Canada Safety Council urges all Canadians to put safety first when you set out on your summer travels.

Prepare your vehicle

Before leaving on vacation, have your vehicle checked to make sure everything is working properly. Repair or replace worn parts to avoid the worry and time-consuming costly repairs that could ruin your trip. Check fluid levels and tire pressure. Make sure all lights work, including signal lights.

Keep your passengers safe

Make sure everyone in your vehicle is buckled up properly at all times. Buckling up is the single most effective thing you can do to keep yourself and your passengers safe while on the road.

If you are travelling with young children, make sure to make regular stops. Bring plenty of items to keep them occupied. Special travel games and songs also help.

Drive defensively

Drive at a safe speed. Speeding increases the likelihood and severity of a crash. The faster a vehicle is moving, the less time the driver has to react to a hazard, and for other road users to react to that vehicle. A speeding vehicle requires more time and distance to stop. Leave plenty of distance between yourself and the vehicle ahead. Apply the three second rule so you can see around the car ahead and plan a manoeuvre to avoid potential dangers, add more time if you have a heavier vehicle, and in poor weather conditions.

The Canada Safety Council estimates that 85 per cent of collisions are preventable. But simply being in the right will not save you from injury or death. You must be prepared for the unsafe actions of other motorists or for poor driving conditions.

  • Obey all signs and signals, including speed limits, traffic lights, stop signs and railway crossings.
  • If you drive with a wireless phone, avoid unnecessary calls and always make the driving task your top priority.
  • Absolutely never drink and drive.

Stay alert

Canadians often travel long distances when they go on vacation. This creates a temptation to keep driving for extended periods even when tired. On top of this, routes can be quite monotonous, another factor that can make a driver sleepy. Get a good sleep before leaving on a long trip. Fatigue is a form of impairment; so don’t give in to that temptation to push on. If you started early, stop early. Rest stops are important. A break keeps the driver alert by promoting blood circulation, makes the trip more pleasant for passengers and lets the vehicle cool down.

Carrying a heavy load or towing a trailer

Before you tow a trailer or haul a load, make sure your vehicle is properly equipped for the job. Check your owner’s manual or if in doubt contact your vehicle dealer. Check that your rear view mirrors give a clear view of the road behind. Driving a heavily loaded car or towing a trailer means you need more space to stop or pass. Leave plenty of distance between yourself and the vehicle ahead. Keep your distance – at least three seconds for each six metres (20 ft.) of vehicle length. For conditions that are less than ideal, increase the following distance. If cars cut in front of you, drop back to keep your separation. When traveling slower than the flow of traffic, be courteous. Pull over where possible to let faster vehicles pass.

Share the road

With the warmer weather, comes the prevalence of vulnerable roads users. Motorists must be cautious of cyclists, motorcyclists and pedestrians. Always be on the lookout for and yield to vulnerable road users, even if they don’t have the right-of-way. Summer also brings increased construction on our roads and highways. Be prepared to stop or slow down in construction zones.

Drive safely and stay safe on the roads!
