Ottawa pedestrian accident results in serious head injury, Ottawa lawyer David Hollingsworth

Ottawa Accident Lawyer David Hollingsworth, Head Injury…A woman faces a charge of careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act after she struck an Ottawa pedestrian at Bronson and Sunnyside avenues Monday evening. The Ottawa pedestrian, a 30-year-old woman, was taken to an Ottawa hospital in very critical condition. The Ottawa Police reported that another vehicle was travelling south on Bronson just before Sunnyside Avenue. The vehicle abruptly turned to the right and hit the van, causing it to hit the Ottawa pedestrian. Emergency crews responded to the call at about 8:15 that evening. Ottawa Paramedics reported that several bystanders provided first aid by immobilizing the woman’s head and neck until they arrived at the Ottawa accident scene.  The Ottawa woman suffered serious injuries to her left side and a serious head injury. My thoughts go out to the friends and family of this woman. I wish her a full recovery.

What you don’t know about a brain injury, Ottawa Ontario Brain Injury Lawyer David Hollingsworth

Ottawa Ontario Brain Injury Lawyer David Hollingsworth, Personal Injury Lawyer Ottawa ..Serious Accidents often result in a brain or head injury.  I have so many clients that suffer from a brain injury and feel that it is important that we all educte ourselves on this “invisible” personal injury.  I found this article on the Brain Injury Association website and have shared parts of it with you.  There are other related articles that can also be found there. ….Brain injuries are the number one killer and disabler of people under the age of 44 in Canada. It is estimated that approximately 1.3 million Canadians are living with an acquired brain injury (ABI), according to the Brain Injury Association of Canada. Speech-language pathologists (S-LPs), audiologists and supportive personnel, who are represented by the Canadian Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (CASLPA), have an important role to play in this area. Research indicates that 80 to 100 % of individuals with a brain injury will have some form of communication disorder. Treatment by these professionals is essential, as they “work to maximize communication and swallowing and, in turn, participation in daily life and activities. Speech-language pathologists are an integral part of the interdisciplinary team who treat the individual with an acquired brain injury.  The cognitive communication deficits subsequent to an ABI can have a devastating impact on an individual’s ability to participate in daily activities and subsequently affect their quality of life. There may be implications on the individual’s ability to participate in daily communication and performing vocational activities,” adds Barnes.

Approaches to treatment and rehabilitation of brain injuries are diverse, as each individual with a brain injury will experience different challenges in speaking, swallowing, reading, listening or hearing. “Considerations must be given to the severity and type of brain injury, the individual’s pre-injury status and family and community supports that is available,” adds Barnes. “Approaches to treatment focus on the communication impairment secondary to the cognitive deficits as well as evaluating and treating any swallowing difficulties post injury.”
Simple recommendations to prevent a brain injury include wearing a helmet during sporting activities, preventing falls, avoiding alcohol and substance abuse, maintaining a healthy lifestyle and wearing your seatbelt.
