Ottawa injury lawyer shares Ottawa bicycle safety tips and Ottawa bylaws for helmets.

Ottawa Personal Injury Lawyers David Hollingsworth and Associates.  I was out visiting a client in Rockland today and as I was driving around Rockland.  I couldn’t help but notice how many people were out on their bicycles .  That’s great for so so many reasons.  We are all excited for spring to arrive and with spring comes more pedestrians, cyclist, motorcycles, ATV etc.  I wanted to take a moment and remind everyone of a few things you can do to help keep yourself safe and our Ottawa roads safe.

-The Ottawa Police have a great website that offers the following tips:

-Make sure your helmet is on and fits properly.

-Your bicycle helmet should be snug and not move around.

-Your bicycle helmet should sit two finger-widths above your brows.

-The straps of your helmet should form  a V   below and around both ears.

-You should not be able to get more than 2  fingers between the chin strap and your chin.

-Ottawa and Ontario cyclists must wear a helmet by law if they are under 18 years of age.

-Do not wear a hat under a helmet.  This is not safe.

-Helmets only reduce personal injuries, they do not prevent accidents from happening.

-Do not use a helmet that has already been in an accident.

-All bicycle helmets need to be CSA, CPSC, Snell B-95, or a N-94 certification sticker.

-Remember that motorists and cyclists share the roadways.

-Cyclists must also follow the rules of the road.  The Ontario Highway Traffic Act, the Ottawa Traffic and Ottawa Parking Bylaw state that cyclists:

-Stop at all stop signs and stop at red lights, and properly signal any changes in lanes.

-Ottawa cyclists must remain on the right side of the road

-Do not ride your bicycle on sidewalks.

-Have a bell, gong, or horn on your bicycle.

-If you are riding at night, make sure your bicycle is well lit.

Please be safe out there. Ottawa has had far too many bicycle accidents and we all need to obey the rules of the road.  Have a great and  happy spring on your bicycle Ottawa !

Ottawa injury lawyers help 74 year old man after US bicycle accident.

Ottawa Injury Lawyers David Hollingsworth and Associates…We were thrilled to be able to help a 74 year old client last month. He was riding a bicycle in the United States  and was hit by a car.  Thankfully he was ok but he did suffer a fractured pelvis and a left tibia fracture. We were able to help him and negotiated on his behalf with the insurance company.  We were able to get him support and compensation as well as $107 500.00 for what he had been through. Our client was so thankful and we were happy to help.

Accidents that take place in another country can still receive compensation.  Many people are unaware that an Ontario personal injury lawyer can pursue a claim on their behalf. While accidents in other countries sometimes complicate a claim, experienced personal injuries lawyers know exactly what to do.

This is just one of many cases we were able to settle last month.  We have built such an incredible team of injury lawyers, paralegals and personal injury specialists that we are able to help hundreds of personal injury clients each year.  We have over 20 years of experience in Ontario personal injury law.We are fortunate that we are the ones who provide “good news” after a terrible and tragic event. Our clients have all been so wonderful and appreciative along the way.  We really do understand and care.  It’s our job as Ottawa personal injury lawyers to help make things better and we do.  If you want to ask us ANY question that relates to personal injury, Ontario insurance, Ontario accident benefits or accidents in general, we are here for you.  Email me david@ottawainjury.ca

Ottawa Health frostbite warning in effect. Bundle up Ottawa !

Ottawa Public Health has issued a frostbite warning for the Ottawa region. Today was absolutely  one of the coldest days we have had in years. It was reported that CAA had over 500 calls this morning from stranded drivers with dead car batteries. This increase in calls resulted in very long waits for stranded drivers. As far as driving is concerned, the roads remain slick and icy.  Please be cautious.

Ottawa paramedics have advised that everyone needs to be bundled if they must go outside and need to move quickly. Skin will become damaged if it is exposed for longer than 10 minutes.

It is really, really cold out there.  Bundle up and be safe !

Tragic accident on Dunrobin Road kills Lisa Roesler.

Ottawa Personal Injury Lawyer David Hollingsworth — Tragically, 17 year old  Lisa Roesler was killed on Sunday when her vehicle crashed into a tree on Dunrobin Road near Crown Point Road. When Ottawa Police arrived at the accident scene, Lisa was dead. She was not ejected from the vehicle. The cause of the accident  is under investigation. There was no reason to believe alcohol was a factor in the accident.

Lisa came from a close family. Her father Rob Roesler spoke very highly of his precious daughter.  Lisa loved spending time with her family, including her mother, Colleen, brother Eric, 22, and sister Shannon, 19. Lisa had been celebrating her father’s birthday Saturday night at their house in Fitzroy Harbour. Lisa was at the party and helped  two teenage boys who did not have a drive home because their friend had been drinking and was supposed to be the driver. Lisa stepped up. One of the boys, Daniel Gaudreau who is 15 years old had just met Lisa.  She drove him and his friend to his house in Morgan’s Grant around 5 a.m. Sunday.  Lisa was a soon-to-be Grade 12 honour roll student at Arnprior District High School and wanted to study English Literature at the Concordia University. She was described as a passionate reader and a strong communicator, who was not shy.

Lisa was also an athlete who played many sports including Ontario Youth Soccer League, rugby and hockey to name a few.

At this terribly tragic and difficult time, my thoughts go out to Lisa family, her large circle of friends and the many lives she touched within the community.  A real loss…
