Ottawa Accident Lawyers David Hollingsworth — A mother and her child were in stable condition in an Ottawa hospital yesterday afternoon after they were hit by a school bus with children at the corner of Vanier Parkway and Deschamps Avenue. The Ottawa accident occurred yesterday before 3 p.m. The 33 year-old mother was taken to an Ottawa hospital with a possible head injury and her 2 1/2 year old daughter, whom she was carrying at the time, was treated for injury to her legs.

Ottawa personal injury lawyer David Hollingsworth..Regrettably, a 21-year-old man has died after an Ottawa accident ,west of Ottawa on Saturday. Renfrew County OPP responded to the Ottawa area accident around 12:35 p.m., on Highland Road near Waba, just 80 km west of downtown Ottawa. Tragically, 21-year-old Erik Nugent was driving northbound when unfortunately failed to get around a sharp turn. Erik Nugent was ejected from the car and sadly, he pronounced dead at the accident scene. My thoughts go out to the friends and family of Erik Nugent.

Petawawa Motorcycle Accident Highway 17 : death Yves Briere

Petawawa Accident, Motorcycle Accident Lawyer.. Regrettably an Ontario man has died as the result of a Petawawa motorcycle accident on Highway 17 northwest of Petawawa Thursday night. Tragically 55-year-old Yves Briere who lived in Chelmsford, Ontario lost control of his motorcycle when he was passing another vehicle on Highway 17 near Colton Creek Road. Yves Briere was taken to Deep River & District hospital, but sadly he died from his personal injuries. Ontario Police reported that alcohol is not believed to be a factor. My thoughts go out to the friends and family of Yves Briere…

Ottawa Injury Accident Report: Death of Philippe Lalonde as the result of fatal crash on Hwy. 417 last Thursday. Philippe Lalonde was 32 and was travelling alone when it crashed into a concrete pillar and burst into flames around 11:30 p.m. A by-standard tried to free Philippe from the burning car but unfortunately was unable to save him. When he arrived at Phillippe’s car, it was already engulfed in flames and the fire quickly spread. Ottawa firefighters were at the Ottawa accident scene and were able to put the fire out . Phillippe Lalonde’s mother-in-law said her daughter wants everyone to know Philippe “was an amazing man.” Lalonde, 32, ran his own contracting business called Philippe Lalonde Renovations.

In 2010, there were 30 fatal car accidents that resulted in the deaths of 34 people in the Ottawa community. Consequently, the Ottawa Police have made traffic safety a high priority through various initiatives. One program the Ottawa Police have put in place is the RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) Programs during the evenings of Thursday May 19th and Friday May 20th. The RIDE Program in Ontario is led by the police community which runs all year long and involves random police spot checks where vehicles are stopped and drivers are checked for impaired driving.
Ottawa Police are also actively engaged in Project E.R.A.S.E. (Eliminate Racing Activity on Streets Everywhere) a collaborative effort of 22 police services, the Ontario Ministry of Transportation and the Ontario Ministry of the Environment whose goal is to change poor driver behavior through education and strategic enforcement. Sadly, since 1999 48 people have been killed in Ontario as a result of street racing activities . In addition, excessive speed continues to be the leading contributing factor in fatal car accidents.
During Canada’s Road Safety Week, Ottawa police will focus on 4 issues:
- Drinking and driving.
- Seat belts and child restraints.
- Aggressive driving, driving at unsafe speeds, following too closely or running red lights and stop signs.
- Distracted Driving

Thankfully, an Ottawa police officer who was first on scene started CPR on the man and shocked him twice with the defibrillator . Ottawa Paramedics shortly after. It was reported that the man regained a pulse moments before he was rushed to The Ottawa Hospital’s Civic campus. The Ottawa car accident was likely caused by a medical event. The Ottawa accident occurred just after 6:30 a.m. on Terry Fox Drive near Hazeldean Road. The southbound lanes on Terry Fox were shut down while Ottawa police re-routed traffic through the Kanata Recreation Complex until just after 10 a.m. I hope this man recovers and I soon have some positive news to share with you…

A pregnant woman and her young toddler were in an Ottawa hospital this morning after their minivan crashed into a downtown Ottawa building. The minivan crashed into the building taking out the apartment window and causing damage to the brick of the three-storey building at 214 Metcalfe St. At approximately 9:45 a.m.m the minivan collided with another vehicle, went out of control and crashed into the basement window of the building near Cooper Street. The eight months’ pregnant Ottawa woman was assessed at the Ottawa accident scene and was in stable condition in an Ottawa hospital. |Thankfully, her 16-month-old son was in a car seat and suffered no personal injury.

Tires are without a doubt the most critical safety component on a vehicle. Where the rubber meets the road affects traction, handling, steering, stability and braking. Because of this, a sudden tire failure can have serious consequences, especially if it occurs at highway speeds in a vehicle with a high centre of gravity.
Are your tires safe? Under inflation is the leading cause of tire failure. Twenty-three per cent of vehicles have at least one tire under-inflated by more than 20 per cent. An under-inflated tire may not be visibly noticeable; however, they are more prone to damage and failure and contribute to higher fuel costs. The right amount of air for your tires is specified by the vehicle manufacturer and is usually shown on the vehicle door edge, doorpost, glove box door or fuel door. It is also listed in the owner’s manual.
It’s up to you. The vehicle owner is responsible for prevention of tire failure caused by improper inflation. Many people seldom ever check their tires. That’s why all 2008 and newer vehicles now have the “Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems” to alert the driver if a tire is low. TPMS isn’t mandatory in Canada , and so far, there are no plans to make it so. Transport Canada says it is monitoring the effectiveness of TPMS and will not rule out the possibility of mandatory requirement, but also says that it will make no decisions before looking at several issues, including false or no warnings, sensor battery life, long-term system durability, and the extremely low numbers of tire failures cited in fatal collisions.
Check Tire pressure. So even though your vehicle is equipped with TPMS, you should still check your tire pressure once a month and before any longer trips. Tires do not last forever, even if the tread shows little visible wear. As rubber ages, it loses elasticity, hardens and can become brittle. The reinforcing cords inside a tire can also deteriorate and lose strength. This increases the risk of a sudden tire failure the older the tire gets. After ten years, the risk of failure goes up sharply. Because of this, many safety experts say tires that are more than six years old have expired and should be replaced regardless of how much tread is left on the tires.
Did You Know? All tires sold in Canada have a tire identification number moulded into the sidewall. This number provides tire retailers specific manufacturing information about when and where the tire was made. The first two characters following DOT indicate the manufacturer and plant code; the third and fourth characters are the tire size code. The fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth are optional. The final four give the manufacturing date. For example, 2602 indicates that the tire was manufactured in the twenty-sixth week of 2002. The maple leaf following the number indicates that the tire was made in Canada and certifies that it meets Transport Canada requirements.
