Ottawa Injury Lawyer David Hollingsworth. This is such a sad story.. The funeral mass for Alex Zolpis, the young man who died early Christmas Eve in an Ottawa parking garage accident, will be held today. May he rest in peace…My thoughts go out to the Zolpis family…and friends of Alex…
Former Newfoundland and Labrador premier Brian Tobin’s son and Alex Zolpis’ was charged with impaired and dangerous driving. The highly publicized accident occurred in a byward market Ottawa parking garage. People arrived at the scene of the wrongful death accident where it was reported that a man was pinned under a truck. Alex Zolpis was the man under the truck and his family is calling their son’s death an accident.
It was reported in the Ottawa Citizen that Jack Tobin, 24, was released on $100,000 bond on Christmas Day. Despite their grieving , the Zolpis’s family has come forward and requested that donations in their son Alex’s memory be made to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) . Friends of Alex’s spoke with news sources and described Alex as a a friend who was high-spirited, extremely funny and entertaining , smart and very kind . The funeral mass is set for 2 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Basilica in Ottawa with a reception to follow at a local hotel.
Accidents such as this one remind us all of the importance of talking about the dangers of drinking and driving. In most instances, no one ever intends to harm anyone when they get behind the wheel; however when alcohol is involved it often happens. In 2010, it is estimated that approximately 2,541 individuals were killed in motor vehicle crashes in Canada alone. MADD Canada also estimates that approximately 175 Canadians per day are injured in impairment-related crashes. These statistic are startling. Perhaps with more education, we can all help reduce alcohol related accidents.
