Ottawa Snow Storm
Well done Ottawa. We survived what seemed to be an incredible amount of snow fall yesterday. It was recorded that we received close to 15 centimeters but it did feel like much more. In Ottawa/Gatineau there were a reported 95 car accidents. Ottawa paramedics responded to 26 accident related calls but thankfully no serious injuries were reported. I say well done. While it would have been great to avoid all accidents, in weather like yesterday’s, it is bound to happen. The fact that there were no serious injuries tells me that Ottawa drivers are driving more cautiously and adjusting their driving to the conditions of the roads . Well done Ottawa. (Maybe you all read my earlier post on safe driving in winter weather ) All kidding aside, I think this is great.
Continue to use your best driving skills as we aren’t out of the woods yet. Ottawa roads are covered in snow and may make for challenging driving conditions. Most of all ensure you have enough space between you and the driver in front of you. Slow down and eyes on the road at all times !
Safe travels home ..and if you are like me, safe travels to your kids extra-curricular activities once you get home !
Ottawa accident results in head injury
An Ottawa accident has left a man with a serious head injury after he was struck yesterday morning on Ottawa’s Airport Parkway, close to Hunt Club Road. The man was described as being in his late 20s or possibly early 30s and was walking along the parkway at the time of the accident ( 7:20 a.m.) He was rushed to the trauma unit of the Ottawa Hospital with life-threatening injuries. I hope to soon be able to report that his condition has improved.
In our personal injury practice we see the potentially life-long implications of a severe head injury. A brain injury is an invisible injury and yet it is one of the most devastating and life-changing injuries we see in our personal injury clients. A brain injury can completely alter someone’s personality and leave them in a state where they do not know how to control their anger and emotions. Many people don’t know how to manage themselves and often times their friends and family react the same way. With a brain injury being an invisible injury, family and friends often think that the injuries are not that serious and that the injured is just “mad” or “unresponsive”; when in actual fact this behaviour is a direct result of a brain injury.
There are many different degrees and levels of a brain injury from mild to traumatic. What’s important to know is that if you or a loved one is suffering from a brain injury there is help and support for you and your family. Ottawa has tremendous organisations that focus on brain injury awareness and support people with brain injuries. Ontario Accident Benefits also provide significant benefits to people who have been in an accident in Ontario and have suffered a brain injury. No one needs to suffer with a brain injury. Our personal injury lawyers can help you not only get maximum compensation for your brain injury, but also set you up with the supports and rehabilitation you need. Let us help.
An Ottawa accident has left a 74 year old woman at the Ottawa Civic Hospital . She was hit by a car at Prince of Wales Drive and Meadowlands Drive late yesterday afternoon. The unidentified woman was being treated for a serious head injury. She currently remains in serious but thankfully, stable condition. My thoughts are with her and her family at this time and I wish her a full recovery.

Car Accident Upper Dwyer Hill
Ottawa Personal Injury Lawyers David Hollingsworth. Sadly, a 43 year old woman died yesterday at an Ottawa hospital. She had been submerged under water car after her car flipped and landed in a ditch filled with water on Upper Dwyer Hill Road at March Road. Emergency crews got the call around 8:15, but tragically Ottawa firefighters couldn’t help the woman. They had to first tow the car out of the water ditch and turn it over before Ottawa paramedics could try to start to save her . She was air-lifted to an Ottawa hospital and sadly she succumbed to her injuries. My thoughts are with her family and friends at this very sad and difficult time.
Wrongful Death and Car Accidents
Our personal injury lawyers meet regularly with families who have lost a loved one in a car accident. We sit down with these grieving families and share with them what we can do to help. Unfortunately, we can’t do what they want most , which is to bring their loved one back. Our injury lawyers can help in other ways. We can help secure death benefits so that loved ones receive a proper send off. Also included in Ontario Accident Benefits are expenses paid by family members related to a funeral. Our lawyers represent families at some of the most difficult times of their lives and help secure death compensation such as: Funeral Expenses up to $6,000.00, Spousal Death Benefits: $25,000.00 and Dependents’ Death Benefit: $10,000.00 each. We understand that this is not enough. In the case where someone else was negligent for the death of a loved one, you may have a wrongful death lawsuit you can also pursue.
In order for a death to be considered wrongful death lawsuit, it must establish that the death:
- Was due to negligence or recklessness of another party.
- Has caused measurable damages, for example a spouse is now suffering from financial issues as the deceased was primary breadwinner.
