Posted by Ottawa Personal Injury Lawyer, Ottawa Accident Lawyer, David Hollingsworth in Ottawa Car Accidents, Ottawa Injury and Accidents on October 19th, 2010
OTTAWA Accident Lawyers, Personal Injury Lawyer David Hollingsworth–A 30 year old Ottawa man was taken to the Ottawa Hospital Trauma Centre last night with critical head injuries after a car accident involving a car and a tractor trailer on Highway 416. It seems that his personal injuries are quite serious and I wish him a full recovery and what I hope is a speedy recovery. The Ottawa accident occurred at 8:40 p.m. near the Bankfield Road exit, according to Ottawa Paramedic Service superintendent Paul Morneau. The car hit the rear of the tractor trailer and then spun into the median, Morneau said. When he was extricated from his car, the man was at first having trouble breathing, but was later able to breathe on his own, Morneau said in a release. Ontario Provincial Police spokesman Rob Powers said both vehicles were heading south at the time. The road was closed for about an hour. The OPP is investigating the crash.

Ottawa Winters and Ontario Car Accidents, Lawyer David Hollingsworth
Ottawa Ontario Car Accident Lawyer David Hollingsworth…Avoiding winter car accidents and injury..
Listen up Ottawa, we are going to get it soon..it is coming..maybe not for another month or two…hopefully even three but it is coming !!
We all know that Ontario winters are challenging for motorists and safety needs to be a top priority. Every effort is made to make Ontario highways safe and to provide efficient winter maintenance service for the public. Ottawa winter weather conditions are unpredictable, placing extra demands on your vehicle and your driving skills. Ensure you are well prepared for winter roads and always adjust your driving speed to existing conditions.
Stay alert, slow down, and stay in control — the three key elements of safe winter driving. Drive according to highway and weather conditions. Keep a safe distance between you and the vehicle in front of you to avoid situations where you may have to brake suddenly on a slippery surface.
Be Prepared — Is Your Vehicle Ready? Are you?
Get your vehicle winter-ready with a maintenance check-up. Don’t wait for winter to have your battery, belts, hoses, radiator, oil, lights, brakes, tires, exhaust system, heater/defroster, wipers, and ignition system checked.
Make sure your vehicle is mechanically ready for the rigours of winter. Keep your fuel tank sufficiently full — at least half a tank is recommended.
Make sure you have sufficient windshield washer fluid in the reservoir that is rated a minimum of -40°C temperature range. Keep an extra jug in the vehicle.
Clear snow and ice from all windows, lights, mirrors, and the roof. After starting your vehicle, wait for the fog to clear from the interior of the windows so you will have good visibility all around.
Have your tires checked or replaced before winter begins. Remember to check tire air pressure frequently, as it decreases in cold weather.
The condition of your vehicle’s tires is important. Worn or damaged tires can hamper your ability to drive safely. For safety reasons, drivers are urged to replace their tires when the tread depth reaches 3mm, rather than wait until the tread no longer meets the legal 1.5mm requirement. Alternately, you can also check the manufacturer’s wear indicator mark on your tires to see if they need replacing. All tires have tread wear indicators, which are small bars of rubber found between the tread blocks of a tire. When the tread is worn flush with the tread wear indicators, the tire has reached its wear limit and must be replaced as it no longer provides sufficient traction in the rain or snow.
While regular or “all-season” tires, including wide and high-performance tires, may be adequate in some areas, they may not be suitable for driving in the snowbelt regions of southern Ontario and throughout the north. If you live and drive in these areas, consider using winter tires. They improve driving safety by providing better traction, braking and handling during frost, snow, slush, and particularly under icy conditions. Installing four winter tires provides greater control and stability. Never mix tires of different tread, size and construction. Also, consider adding traction control and stability control options when purchasing your next vehicle.

What are accident benefits? Chances are unless you’ve been in an Ontario car accident , you do not know and may never need to know. Did you know that you’re entitled to benefits regardless of who caused the car accident? Are you aware of all your accident benefit entitlements? If you or a loved one has been injured in a car accident, it’s important to know and protect your rights.
In Ontario, victims of motor vehicle accidents obtain accident benefits through their own Ontario insurance company. Ontario law states that an accident victim needs to file an Application for Accident Benefits within 30 days of the Ontario car accident. Once the claim has been filed, there are several steps that need to be followed in order to ensure that you receive the maximum compensation you are entitled to. The process is complicated and stressful and unfortunately it comes at the worst time in your life; after an accident. You are suffering from your injuries and are faced with some complicated paperwork. A good Ontario personal injury lawyer can help you right from the start by helping you navigate the complicated and arduous process of filing an Ontario Accident Benefits claim and ensure you are properly covered and compensated for moving forward. Good personal injury lawyers will facilitate the process from start to finish and work with your Ontario insurance company to ensure your rights are protected. You could be entitled to Income Replacement Benefits, Housekeeping, Attendant Care Benefits, Medical and Rehabilitation Benefits, and possible more.
David Hollingsworth has a team in place that help his clients solely with their accident benefits applications. He and his team immediately put accident victims at ease by removing a huge and stressful burden allowing them to focus on what they should be focussing on; themselves, their recovery and their family. If you have suffered from an Ontario car accident, call David for a free consultation and an explanation of the Accident Benefits system, even if you’ve already submitted the Application for Accident Benefits; he would be happy to discuss your ongoing claim with you and share his insights with Ontario personal injury law and accident benefits compensation.

Kars Car Accident Roger Stephens -personal injury: head injury, chest injury and orthopedic injury
Posted by Ottawa Personal Injury Lawyer, Ottawa Accident Lawyer, David Hollingsworth in Ottawa Car Accidents, Ottawa Injury and Accidents on September 15th, 2010
Ottawa Lawyers, Ottawa Attorney David Hollingsworth…I wish these parents a full and quick recovery from this Ottawa accident. Thank goodness they had the children properly secured in the car. Good job ! Unfortunately, the parents did not fair as well. A 35-year-old man and a woman in her 30s were rushed to hospital with life-threatening personal injuries after a 3 vehicle car accident on Roger Stephens Dr. near McCordick Rd this afternoon at about 3:30 p.m. The man suffered serious personal injury: head and chest injuries and the woman was treated for personal injury as well: head and internal injuries. Both legs and one arm were also fractured. Both are listed in critical condition. My thoughts are with them and their families. Almost miraculously, the woman’s two children were mostly unhurt. A three-year-old girl was treated for personal injury: minor facial and neck injuries, while an 18-month-old boy did not suffer any obvious personal injuries. Both kids were in their car seats when the collision occurred. They were flown to CHEO by air ambulance. Fortunately, the driver of the third car was also unhurt. Police are investigating the collision.
OTTAWA — Two adults suffered life-threatening injuries Wednesday afternoon and two young children were taken to Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario after a three-car crash on Roger Stevens Drive between between McCordick and Malakoff roads.
A 35-year-old man in one vehicle suffered a life-threatening head injury and a chest injury in the crash and was in critical condition in hospital. The mother of two children, a girl aged three years and 18-month-old boy, was reported to have life-threatening head injuries, a broken arm and two broken legs and was in critical condition.
The woman, believed to be in her late 20s or early 30s, was extricated from her vehicle in a process that took almost 45 minutes. The car roof was cut off, the doors were removed and the dashboard was also taken away. The driver of the Acura had escaped his car when emergency services personnel arrived on the scene. He was airlifted to the trauma unit in the Civic campus of The Ottawa Hospital.
According to witnesses on the scene, the two children, who were in car seats, almost miraculously did not appear to have suffered serious injuries. The 18-month-old was not hurt. The three-year-old suffered minor facial and neck injuries and was in stable condition. The woman’s vehicle, a green four-door Ford, was almost demolished in the collision that involved a silver Acura, driven by the seriously injured man, and a Napa auto parts vehicle, the driver of which did not appear to have been injured. He remained on the scene talking to police investigators. A police spokeswoman said Roger Stevens would be closed for much of Wednesday evening between McCordick and Malakoff.
OTTAWA-A mother whose two young children were saved by their carseats after a devastating three-car collision near Kars was fighting for her life in hospital Wednesday evening, along with a 35-year-old man traveling in another car.
The mother, believed to be in her early 30s, suffered life-threatening head and internal injuries, two fractured legs and a fractured arm, paramedics said. She was listed in critical condition Wednesday night.
It took firefighters 45 minutes to extract her from the wrecked green Ford Taurus she was driving. The roof and doors had to be cut away, and the dash of the car had to be ripped away from her, said fire department spokesman Marc Messier. The accident happened at about 3:50 p.m. on Roger Stevens Drive near North Gower, between McCordick and Malakoff roads. The straight stretch of two-lane road is bordered on either side by houses, farms and fields.
At the scene late Wednesday afternoon, the torn-apart Taurus sat in the westbound lane’s ditch. Another badly damaged vehicle, a silver Acura EL, lay sideways across most of the eastbound lane.
The third vehicle, a white Napa Auto Parts car driven by 61-year-old employee Al Macleod, appeared much less the worse for wear. Macleod, who appeared to be unhurt, remained at the scene after giving a brief statement to police, then waited for collisions unit investigators to arrive. Thankfully, he was assessed by paramedics, but didn’t need to be taken to hospital.
The woman’s two children, both strapped safely into their carseats, escaped relatively unharmed While their mother was taken by ground ambulance to The Ottawa Hospital’s trauma unit at the Civic campus, the children were taken to the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario for closer examination, paramedic spokesman J.P. Trottier said. The boy was unhurt, while his older sister received only minor injuries to her face and neck, likely from debris flying in the car, Trottier said. The driver of the other heavily damaged silver Acura, a 35-year-old man traveling alone, was airlifted to the trauma unit. He had life-threatening head and chest injuries, and was listed in critical condition Wednesday night. When firefighters arrived at the scene, the badly injured man had somehow already managed to get himself out of the wrecked car, Trottier said. Details about the crash were sketchy Wednesday night. The position of the cars didn’t betray the direction they had been travelling, and it was unclear who hit whom or why. Collisions investigators were unavailable for comment. At a closed-off intersection nearby, Macleod’s wife, Kim, and 19-year-old son Kyle waited in a truck for news, thankful that Al walked away from the crash.
Kim said she received the call from Napa, whom Macleod had radioed right after the accident.“He was still pretty scattered when I talked to him,” she said. “He wanted to make sure I knew he was OK.“He retired a couple of years ago, and he does this for something to do, and it’s getting far too exciting for him.” The investigation into the crash was ongoing Wednesday night.

Fatal Ottawa Car Accident, Tragic Death, Ottawa Car Accident Lawyer David Hollingsworth
Posted by Ottawa Personal Injury Lawyer, Ottawa Accident Lawyer, David Hollingsworth in Ottawa Car Accidents, Ottawa Injury and Accidents on September 3rd, 2010
Ottawa Car Accident Lawyers David Hollingsworth..My thoughts are with the friends and family of Justin McNaughton…What a tragedy and I am so sorry for the loss of Justin, who sounds like he was a wonderful kid. Accidents like this should not happen… What was supposed to be a fun, relaxing night around a bonfire turned to a terrible tragedy when a young man in his 20s died after he was struck by a car in Ottawa’s west end early last Saturday. Friends said Justin McNaughton was someone who always had a smile on his face. “He was always happy, everyone knew him as a happy kid, he was never rude,” said Taylor Moffatt, 18. “He was just the funniest guy to be around.”
Police Const. Alain Boucher said Justin was crossing the street with friends after attending a party at 4810 Brophy Dr. when he was in a car accident and hit by a Honda Accord at 12:30 a.m. The male driver of the Honda did not have any personal injuries. Police said McNaughton and a friend had crossed Brophy Drive, mistakenly believing an approaching eastbound pickup truck was their ride. When the vehicle passed them by, the pair attempted to return to the other side of the street. It was then that the Honda hit McNaughton. Matt Brophy, 19, said he had invited a group of friends to his house for a farewell party before they all left for university and college. Brophy had just graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic High School. Brophy said his older brother also invited some friends, including McNaughton.“It was a calm, fun party – we had the music going,” Brophy said, adding that he went to sleep around midnight and didn’t find out about the accident until the morning. On Saturday morning, Brophy and his friend Johnny Senuik, 19, were outside the house cleaning from the night before, placing empty beer bottles and cans into a wheelbarrow. “We were all just going our separate ways, we were going to have one last shindig,” Senuik said. He said the last time he spoke to McNaughton was when the two were reminiscing around the bonfire. “As far as I knew, he was nice as pie.” Moffatt said Brophy’s father kept watch throughout the night and was arranging for parents to pick up their kids or have them go home with someone who was sober. She said police tried to keep everyone away from the scene. “Everyone was just on the ground crying.” Police are still investigating and no charges have been laid. The Ottawa Citizen reported that 5 young Ottawa Irish Rugby Club players who were rushed to hospital yesterday — including a 15-year-old in critical condition — after their SUV rolled over on Ottawa’s Moodie Drive have been released from Ottawa hospital and are recovering at home. “They’re in good spirits,” said Tim Powers, an executive member of the Ottawa Irish Rugby Club. The accident happened shortly before 6 p.m. just north of Cambrian Drive. Five players were riding home to the Rockland area in a Chevrolet Suburban, driven by their coach, from a Saturday afternoon match at Twin Elm Park when the SUV rolled over. Police are still investigating the cause. An 18-year-old passenger sustained back injuries and a puncture wound to his stomach and was taken to hospital in serious condition. A 19-year-old and 15-year-old were both taken to hospital in stable condition. The 23-year-old male driver, who is a former Ottawa Irish player, and other passenger were treated on scene and released. The most seriously injured was another 15-year-old sitting on the front passenger side, which took the brunt of the impact. He sustained a critical head injury, a serious shoulder injury, and significant blood loss. He was transported to the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario. He had about 48 stitches, Powers said, but still can’t wait to get back on the field.“He told the club president when he got home that he’ll be back out there by Tuesday,” Powers said. “I think the doctors might disagree with him on the time but it just shows that these boys are doing well.” The rugby season continues on until early November. Powers said it’s unsure whether all the players will return this season but they will make full recoveries.
