Julio Nibigirwe has been identified as the young teen who died this past weekend in an Ottawa car accident. He seemed to be loved by many. He was described as positive and lived life to the fullest. Nibigirwe was born in Burundi and lived, with his family, in the area of Uplands Drive area. He attended École secondaire catholique Franco-Cité. Many students at the school are mourning his death. Sadly, the 21 year old who was also in the car has also been pronounced dead after battling for his life. His name has not been released. What a tragedy…

Tragically, a 16 year old male teenager has died as the result of a terrible accident that also left 4 other young men with serious personal injuries when their minivan crashed last night in Ottawa South. Both the teen and a 21-year-old man were ejected from the minivan close to the intersection of Lowen Drive and River Road at approximately 2 a.m. this morning. Tragically , the teen died on impact . The 21 year old young man was found unconscious 50 feet away from the van and was rushed to an Ottawa hospital with severe and possible life threatening injuries. The 17 year old driver and 2 other passengers, ages 19 and 17, were also rushed to an Ottawa hospital with personal injuries. What a terrible tragedy for these young boys. Ottawa Injury Lawyer David Hollingsworth…A 12-year-old girl is thankfully at home after a hit and run Ottawa accident in the east end yesterday. Kalie Panula was on her way to school yesterday morning when a car pulled out from behind an OC Transpo bus and hit her. Panula believes that the grey Honda CRV started to slow down, but then sped up once he saw her and hit her head-on. Panula was thrown several feet but thankfully landed on her knapsack, which prevented her from hitting her head and possibly suffering a head injury. Panula described the driver as “ a scrawny man in his 50s”.

Ottawa Injury Lawyer..Ottawa Police were called to an Ottawa accident scene yesterday, when a 29-year-old male was hit by a vehicle and dragged in the ByWard Market around 3 a.m. Saturday. The man had been in the Ottawa area of George and Dalhousie streets when the accident occurred happened. He suffered a severe head injury and was unconscious when the Ottawa paramedics arrived. Thankfully, the man regained consciousness and was taken to The Ottawa Hospital’s Civic campus trauma unit.

The 21-year-old was unconscious when Ottawa paramedics and was still unconscious when he arrived at the Ottawa hospital. The Ottawa pedestrian accident is under police investigation. A severe brain injury can be a life changing event.My thoughts go out to this man and his family. I hope to soon be able to report better news on his well being.

The freezing rain and snow have finally stopped and now a deep cold is setting in throughout Ottawa and eastern Ontario. Ottawa, Gatineau, Brockville, Cornwall and Smiths Falls were under a snowfall warning until late afternoon, with 15 centimetres or more expected throughout the day. A freezing rain warning was lifted that morning. There were over 60 Ottawa accidents yesterday and reports indicate that some Ottawa accident victims suffered minor injuries. Police believe that this was due to the fact that Ottawa drivers were slowing down and driving cautiously. Well done ! Not all accidents can be avoided but this just goes to show that if all drivers out there are driving very carefully we can reduce the number of Ottawa accidents that result in serious personal injury. To all of you out there who took a little extra time to get to your destination, or drove a little more defensively, congratulations , you did a great job.
That being said, you job is not done. There is a frost bite warning in effect in Ottawa. Dropping temperatures and increasing winds today will give us a -28 C wind chill. This cold cold weather looks like it’s here to stay for the day and will be as lows hit -22 C this evening. Once you add in the windchill factor and we’re looking at -27 C , according to Environment Canada. In other words, its coooooooooooolllllllldddddddddddddddd. My advice, stay in. It is supposed to warm up a little tomorrow. Unfortunately, our Ottawa roads and sidewalks will be slick and slippery. This will make it very challenging for Ottawa drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.
I have to admit, as much as I would like to, I can’t stay in. We will be out about shuffling our children from hockey rinks to swimming pools. My plan..slow and steady wins the race. We will get to where we need to be , then home for the SENS game..Go Sens go ! Please be safe out there today Ottawa. Take your time, keep our Ottawa roads as accident free as possible.
