Ottawa accident highway 417 suspected spinal cord injury, Ottawa personal injury lawyer David Hollingsworth

Ottawa Personal Injury Lawyer David Hollingsworth…An Ottawa man was taken to hospital after an Ottawa accident between his motorcycle and a small vehicle southeast of Ottawa Monday morning. Ottawa paramedics said a 35-year-old man suffered a fractured right leg in the Ottawa accident that occurred on Highway 417, just  east of Boundary Road. The accident victim was immobilized at scene and treated for a possible spinal injury. He was in serious but stable condition when he arrived at the Ottawa hospital. I hope to soon be able to report better news and wish him a full recovery from this very serious accident.

Ottawa car accident : 4 teenage girls suffer serious permanent injury.

Ottawa Personal Injury Lawyer David Hollingsworth..4 Ottawa teenagers were taken to an Ottawa hospital after a car accident on Highway 417,  southeast of Ottawa Sunday morning. Ottawa paramedics arrived at  1:27 a.m. to the Ottawa accident scene near the highway near Boundary Road, where a car with 4 girls suffered serious personal injury. Paramedics from Ottawa and Prescott-Russell treated all four patients, taking them to two different Ottawa hospitals. One passenger suffered a serious, but non-life threatening facial injury and was in serious but stable condition when she arrived at the Ottawa hospital. A 17-year old female was also listed in serious but stable condition, and the two other 17-year-olds in the vehicle were taken to hospital in stable condition. My hope is that all 4 girls recover from this terrible accident and I hope to soon report that they will recover fully.

Ottawa Lawyer David Hollingsworth: Have a safe and happy long labour day weekend !

Ottawa Personal Injury Lawyer David Hollingsworth…We are just hours away from the long weekend.  I wanted to take a minute to wish everyone  a safe and enjoyable weekend.  Be careful on the roads and in the waters if you are at a cottage or boating.  Please do not drink and drive ! Plan ahead and organise a safe long weekend for your family, friends and yourself.

The Canadian Red Cross Put out these excellent safety tips, which serve as a great reminder to us all…

Safety first this long weekend

Because personal injury is no accident. Long weekends can mean highway travel, boating trips, camping, swimming and fun at the cottage. While all these activities create lasting summer memories, they all share the potential for injury. Be prepared for a safe and fun season. While heading to the cottage or campsite this weekend, Canadian Red Cross asks you to consider these important safety tips.

Safety in, on, and around water

  • Try on their life jacket to see that it still fits and that all the zippers and buckles are in good working order.
  • When boating, always wear a life jacket. Even in nice weather, even close to shore. On average, more than 500 people drown every year in Canada. Life jackets really do save lives.
  • Power boaters need to have their Pleasure Craft Operator Card in order to operate a boat.
  • If you’re staying near the water at a campsite, cottage or resort, always supervise children. Kids love water and may wander over ‘just to take a look’, or to get that beach ball that’s bobbing on the surface.

Prevent personal injuries

  • Buckle up. Infants and young children should be in a car seat or size-appropriate booster seat.
  • Hot dogs around the campfire are great but can be easily lodged in young children’s throats. If you have toddlers, make sure to cut the hotdog lengthwise and then into small pieces.
  • Review fire safety rules with the kids. They shouldn’t play with matches, poke the fire, or roughhouse near the flames where they might fall in.
  • Be sure children play on age-appropriate playground equipment. Falls are a leading cause of injury for kids.
  • Keep pool chemicals, pest control substances and cleaners out of reach of children.

Renfrew Accident: Wrongful death Adam McLeod and serious personal injuries Kevin Kilby

Ontario Accident Lawyer David Hollingsworth .. Regrettably, a two-vehicle Ontario accident on Monday left one man dead and two other men with serious personal injuries. Sadly, Adam Donald McLeod, 24, of Hyndford, died at the scene of the Ontario accident when his car collided head-on with an oncoming truck. The passenger in his car, Kevin Kilby, 19, of Douglas also suffered serious personal injuries and remains at the Civic campus of the Ottawa Hospital. My thoughts go out to the friends and family of Adam Donald McLeod.. I also hope for a full and speedy recovery for Kevin Kilby.  Hopefully his injuries are not life altering.

The Ontario accident happened near Kellys Corners. A post-mortem, of McLeod, was scheduled for Tuesday at the Ottawa Hospital. Anyone with information about the collision is asked to call the Renfrew Ontario Provincial Police  at 613-432-3211.

Ottawa Injury Lawyer shares Ontario winter driving safety tips to avoid accidents and personal injury.

Ottawa Lawyer David Hollingsworth, Ottawa Injury Lawyer…I came across this information on the Canada Safety Council website and thought I would share this timely information.  It’s very icy out there Ottawa, please drive safely….

Winter Driving Tips

Winter driving can sometimes be a daunting task, especially when conditions are snowy or icy. Follow these steps to keep yourself safe and collision free during the next few blustery winter months.

Step 1: Make sure that your vehicle is prepared for winter driving.

  • Winter tires are a good option, as they will provide greater traction under snowy or icy conditions.
  • Keep a snow brush/scraper in your car, along with possible emergency items such as a lightweight shovel, battery jumper cables, and a flashlight.
  • Make sure that mirrors, all windows, and the top of your vehicle, are free of snow or frost before getting onto the road.

Step 2: Drive smoothly and slowly

  • Don’t make any abrupt turns or stops when driving. Doing so will often cause your vehicle to lose control and skid.
  • Driving too quickly is the main cause of winter collisions. Be sure to drive slowly and carefully on snow and ice covered roads.

Step 3: Don’t tailgate.

  • Tailgating becomes much worse in winter weather. Stopping takes much longer on snowy and icy roads than on dry pavement, so be sure to leave enough room between your vehicle and the one in front of you.

Step 4: Brake before making turns.

  • Brake slowly to reduce speed before entering turns. Once you have rounded the corner you can accelerate again.

Step 5: Learn how to control skids.

  • When skidding, you actually need to go against your natural instincts and turn into the skid and accelerate. Doing so transfers your vehicle’s weight from the front to the rear and often helps vehicles to regain control.

Step 6: Lights On.

  • Turn on your lights to increase your visibility to other motorists.

Step 7: No Cruise Control.

  • Never use cruise control if conditions are snowy, icy, or wet, because if your car hydroplanes, your car will try to accelerate and you may lose control of your vehicle.

Step 8: Don’t “pump” the brakes.

  • If your vehicle is equipped with an anti-lock breaking system (ABS), do not “pump” the brakes. Apply constant pressure and let the system do its work.

Step 9: Pay attention.

  • Manoeuvres are more difficult to make in the snow. Be sure to anticipate what your next move is going to be to give yourself lots of room for turns and stopping.

Compensation for Pain and Suffering, Ontario Accident Benefits

Ottawa Car Accident Lawyer, Law Firm in Ottawa, Ontario, David Hollingsworth.. Calculating your compensation for pain and suffering can be challenging . In Ontario, damages for pain and suffering refer to the amount of compensation an accident victim should be compensated for because of the pain and suffering the person they have  endured and most likely will continue to endure. Pain and suffering damages can be awarded for the future, for the present, or for the past, depending on the personal injuries, when they happened and how serious and life altering they are. More specifically, if a person was in an Ontario car accident, and remained in pain for an entire year, and is only now settling the claim with the insurance company, they would likely get compensation for pain and suffering damages for the entire year they were in pain. As a personal injury lawyer, I help accident victims obtain an expert opinion that states whether or not this pain and suffering will have life long implications and if so,  help them get the maximum  lifelong compensation they will need.   Notably, future damages are more difficult to obtain than past or present damages, because victims cannot have personal documentation of his or her future pain but that is where the help of an Ontario personal injury lawyer comes in.   An accident victim can have documentation, i.e., medical records, video, pictures etc, of present or past pain. One of the difficult parts of settling an Ontario  personal injury claim is that unlike medical bills, or lost wages, pain and suffering will cost a person an undetermined amount of money and compensation. The amount is open to interpretation. So how do people generally place dollar values on this pain and suffering, when requesting a settlement from an insurance company? Many insurance companies take each personal injury and assess it based on individual merit. Some insurance companies use calculating software programs to determine payout amounts. Other insurance companies base the amount they will pay out generally on how much they have paid on past similar personal injury cases and circumstances. There are many different theories on the methods for calculating pain and suffering . the main thing to remember is each case is unique and what’s most important is that above all accident victims get  maximum compensation for their pain and suffering.  Some insurance companies try to determine how many days you have or will endure pain and suffering and how much each of those days of pain is worth in dollar value. Then multiply the number of days by the amount you valued the pain and suffering at. This is precisely why a top Ontario personal injury lawyer is essential.  I have had many accident victims come to me who really needed my help.  They tried working directly with their insurance companies, but realised that it was complicated and got the feeling that the insurance company wasnt necessarily looking out for their best interest.  Guess what?  They weren’t.

Ottawa Car Accident Ottawa River Parkway, Ottawa Lawyers David Hollingswoth

Ottawa Car Accident Lawyer, Personal Injury Attorney David Hollingsworth…I am sorry to update this with a report of more serious injury to one of the Ottawa accident victims.  He is fighting for his life with critical personal injuries.  I will be thinking of him and his family and hope to soon report better news… Regrettably, 2 young men were rushed to an Ottawa hospital after an early morning crash this morning on the Ottawa River Parkway. Ottawa Police  reported two men were travelling in a car on the Ottawa Parkway at about 3 a.m. when the driver lost control and hit a tree near Goldenrod Street. Ottawa Firefighters took over 1/2 an hour to remove the passenger from the vehicle. The driver was walking outside the car when fire services arrived. Both young men — one aged 19, the other 20 — were taken to an Ottawa hospital. Police were unable to provide detail as to their condition. Their names were not being released. Ottawa Parkway’s eastbound lanes remains closed from Island Park Drive to Parkdale Avenue. People walking or cycling near the area are being kept away from the Ottawa accident scene. The RCMP, who have jurisdiction on the Ottawa Parkway, are investigating with the assistance of the Ottawa Police  collision team.

update:

A 19-year-old male trapped in a vehicle for an hour following a serious collision on the Ottawa River Parkway early Sunday morning is in hospital with critical injuries, fighting for his life. The incident took place around 3:15 a.m. in the eastbound lanes, west of parkdale avenue, when a vehicle left the road and crashed into a large tree. Paramedics reported the Acura Integra had “a devastating amount of damage”. The driver, who is in his 20s, had a moderate back injury and was walking around when paramedics came to the scene. He is in stable condition in an Ottawa hospital. It took emergency officials an hour to free the one passenger in the vehicle, stuck in the front seat. He had major injuries to his head, chest and abdomen and is now at the Ottawa Hospital Trauma Unit.
