A 6 year-old boy is in critical condition with serious head injury after the minivan he was travelling in crashed into a diesel tanker truck in Ottawa Sunday morning. Ottawa police say the tanker was heading northbound on Merivale and had a green light when the van may have run a red and crashed into the rear passenger side. The boy and his three siblings inside the van were taken to the CHEO. Their father luckily suffered no personal injury and another adult passenger was taken to the Ottawa Hospital General Campus as a precaution. 4 children were in car seats and thankfully all wearing seatbelts. Police have not released names or laid charges in the accident.

Ottawa Police have reopened Walkley Road between Cedarwood Drive and Heatherington Road, which was closed Thursday afternoon after a 13-year-old Ottawa boy was struck by a vehicle. Ottawa Paramedics treated the boy for a life-threatening head injury and transported him to an Ottawa hospital, where his condition is listed as critical. Ottawa Police are still investigating the cause of the car accident, which was one of dozens of collisions that happened across the city during yesterday afternoon’s whiteout conditions. Police warned commuters to drive safely as nasty winter weather creates whiteout conditions in some areas. They reminded motorists to give themselves plenty of room to stop when they approach intersections and encouraged them to leave space between vehicles.
