Ottawa Law Firms, Ottawa Ontario Car Accident Lawyer David Hollingsworth….
Car accidents can happen any time, to anyone and for many reasons that include driver error, mechanical defects and roadway hazards. Unfortunately, many car accidents that I see as an Ottawa Ontario personal injury lawyer are sometimes Ontario accidents caused by the use of handheld devices while driving.
Accidents and Talking on the Phone
I understand that it is tempting to talk on cell phones while driving. Despite that fact that Ontario has banned the use of handheld devices while driving, many people are still using them. Even if you are not talking on a handheld device, the simple act of having a conversation while driving is distracting in and of itself – even if held using a hands-free device. Studies show us that as much as 80% of the population admits to carrying on telephone conversations while driving. Those same studies show us that as much as 25% of all car accidents list cell phone usage as a contributing factor. As many as 2600 people die each year as a result of car accidents caused by cell phone use. In additional to those fatal car accidents, another 330,000 suffer personal injuries.
Car Accidents and Texting
The risk of being involved in a serious car accident is even higher when you are texting on a cell phone, iphone or blackberry, not talking. Anything that takes our eyes off the road and causes a distraction can be the precipitating factor in any car accident. While talking on the phone can be distracting, texting clearly takes our eyes off the road. One study showed that for a driver that was sending or receiving a text message, in a six second period, four of those seconds were spent with their eyes off the road. Given the fact that the time frame to recognize and respond to changing road conditions is about two seconds, it is not hard to see why texting can be so dangerous. Distracted driving is by far the most common reason given for car accident causes. Guess what? The use of handheld devices is also the biggest sub-category within distracted driving.
It’s common sense folks, just don’t do it. You can respond to that email when you are in a safe place and your eyes can focus solely on your phone. It’s not worth the risk !

Ottawa Lawyers, Ottawa Law Firms, David Hollingsworth …Regrettably, a man was killed in a strange Ottawa accident when the car he was driving struck a hydro pole on Carp Road near Rothbourne Road, just south of the Queensway. A large rock smashed through the windshield of a car and hit the driver in the head moments before the vehicle slammed into a hydro pole on Carp Road Monday morning. Fire, paramedics and police were called to the scene near Rothbourne Road, just south of the Queensway, after 10 a.m. The lone man, believed to be in his 40s, was trapped in the vehicle and unconscious. Ottawa paramedics said in a news release they were unable to get to the man for immediate treatment and he was declared dead at 10:30 a.m. Fire department spokesman Marc Messier said a rock the size of two fists had hit the driver in the head. A witness who contacted the Ottawa Citizen said the driver was hit by a large rock moments before the accident, and paramedics reported that several large rocks were found in the car after the accident. Ottawa Collisions investigators are trying to determine how the rock ended up smashing through the windshield — if it was kicked up by the vehicle once it took the ditch, or if it came from elsewhere. Anyone who witnessed this Ottawa accident is asked to contact the collisions police unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 2481.

Young boy Ottawa bicycle accident -head injury -leg fractures, Ottawa lawyer
Posted by Ottawa Personal Injury Lawyer, Ottawa Accident Lawyer, David Hollingsworth in Ottawa Car Accidents, Ottawa Injury and Accidents on September 21st, 2010
Regrettably, a 6 year-old boy was in serious condition Sunday night after being on his bicycle and involved in a car accident with a black pick-up truck around the corner from where he lives. Neighbours said the boy and his two older brothers were riding their bikes on Greynam Court when he darted onto Medhurst Drive and was struck at 4:10 p.m. Sunday evening. An Ottawa neighbour said he ran onto the road after hearing a loud thump and screams, to find the young injured boy and a distraught man who said he didn’t have time to stop when the boy sped onto the street. Witnesses said the boy was not wearing a helmet. He received head injuries and fractures to his legs. Police were on the scene until about 10:15. As a father of 3, with children this age, I can’t imagine what this family is going through. They are in my thoughts and I hope this very young boy recovers fully from this tragic Ottawa bicycle accident .

Ottawa Accident Lawyer, Ottawa Personal Injury Lawyer, David Hollingsworth…My thoughts are with this family..As a father of a six year old son myself, I am thinking about this boy, his family and I wish him a full and speedy recovery.
A 6 year-old boy is in critical condition with serious head injury after the minivan he was travelling in crashed into a diesel tanker truck in Ottawa Sunday morning. Ottawa police say the tanker was heading northbound on Merivale and had a green light when the van may have run a red and crashed into the rear passenger side. The boy and his three siblings inside the van were taken to the CHEO. Their father luckily suffered no personal injury and another adult passenger was taken to the Ottawa Hospital General Campus as a precaution. 4 children were in car seats and thankfully all wearing seatbelts. Police have not released names or laid charges in the accident.

Ontario, Ottawa slip and fall settlement / Ottawa Lawyer explains..
Posted by Ottawa Personal Injury Lawyer, Ottawa Accident Lawyer, David Hollingsworth in Ottawa Injury and Accidents, Personal Injury Claims on March 9th, 2010
Even though the mild weather is coming to Ottawa, slip and fall accidents still happen regularly. The ice is melting and has a slick layer of water on top, which remains invisible to the pedestrian. In most instances, when you suffer from an Ontario slip and fall accident, property owners will often try to settle your Ontario accident claim out of court. An Ontario accident settlement offer may be presented as a lump amount or as a structured settlement with several payments spread out over time.
The weather may seem more tame than only a few weeks or months ago, but slip and fall accidents and incidents of personal injury still remain regular and unfortunate occurrences in the Ottawa community and Ontario generally. The melting ice can often pose a danger to pedestrians who are unable to see the invisible and slippery layer of water over-top.
If you have suffered from a personal injury such as a slip and fall, remember that several factors directly influence your prospects of successful settlement and the ability to secure and protect your most valued interests, such as the safety and security of your family and loved ones.
In Ontario slip and fall accidents and such circumstances, property owners will often attempt to settle your Ontario accident claim outside of court. Do not be fooled, as these offers are often low-ball and do not offer to you what you may rightfully deserve from the accident, to enable you to return to your pre-accident level of functioning and lifestyle.
An Ontario accident settlement offer can be in the form of a structured settlement with several payments over the course of a pre-determined time-frame, or simply a lump sum payment to you. Out of court settlements, such as on a business owner’s property, are usually lower than if the case proceeds to trial, with the help of an established and competent Ottawa personal injury lawyer that specializes in slip and fall injuries such as David Hollingsworth.
A good lawyer will fight to ensure that your voice is heard, and your interests are protected. If you settle for an inexperienced lawyer, you may lose your chance to get the maximum settlement offer that you deserve. If an inexperienced or inattentive lawyer neglects the paperwork and administrative elements, this may literally expire your ability to follow through with successful legal action (limitation periods).
The complexity and unique nature of each cases requires the careful attention of a lawyer that specializes in slip and fall and personal injury matters in Ottawa such as David Hollingsworth, who can help you to determine whether a settlement offer is fair or not, and how to proceed when it is not to enable and empower you to achieve maximum support and compensation for your injury.
Ottawa Personal Injury Lawyer David Hollingsworth specializes in Ontario slip and fall accidents and Ottawa personal injury, dedicated to his clients and fighting for maximum settlement for physical or mental harm or personal injury caused by negligence and Ontario accidents. As one of the best Ottawa personal injury lawyers, David has earned an outstanding reputation in the areas of Ontario personal injury, slip and fall accidents and Ontario motor vehicle accidents. If you slip or fall on a business’ property, the settlement offer is usually lower than if the case goes to trial. This is where the top Ottawa personal injury lawyers can help. An experienced Ottawa personal injury lawyer will be able to fight for you and get the maximum settlement offer. A skilled Ottawa personal injury lawyer with experience handling Ottawa slip and fall accident cases similar to yours can help you determine what to expect. Each case is complex and requires a skilled personal injury lawyer to determine whether a settlement offer is fair or not. In most cases, when an Ottawa personal injury lawyer is not involved, it is not. Most Ottawa personal injury lawyers get paid out of the settlement (contingency fee) and are likely to negotiate aggressively to get you the maximum settlement.
