Ottawa expecting snow and freezing rain tomorrow, Ottawa lawyer David Hollingsworth
Posted by Ottawa Personal Injury Lawyer, Ottawa Accident Lawyer, David Hollingsworth in Ottawa Injury and Accidents, Ottawa Resources, safety on April 22nd, 2012
Ottawa Personal Injury Lawyer David Hollingsworth…I can’t believe it but apparently it is going to snow and freeze rain tomorrow. What worries me is that many of us have already removed our snow tires and this could be dangerous, leading to an increased rate of Ottawa accidents. There is a storm front moving in beginning with rain, then turning to snow. The snow will not likely stick around for long but will make driving conditions a challenge in the Ottawa and eastern Ontario area. Please take your time tomorrow out on the roads. There will be many more cars on the roads, especially on the highway out to Scotiabank Place. Leave extra braking distance between you and the vehicle in front of you . Please also look out for cyclists and pedestrians, as your braking speed may be affected by the severe change in weather. Drive safely.

Ottawa Police aiming to reduce personal injuries by focussing on unsafe lane changes
Posted by Ottawa Personal Injury Lawyer, Ottawa Accident Lawyer, David Hollingsworth in Ottawa Injury and Accidents, Ottawa Resources, safety on April 2nd, 2012
Ottawa Personal Injury Lawyer David Hollingsworth…Ottawa Police and the City of Ottawa’s Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) are targetting Ottawa motorists performing unsafe lane changes and those who inappropriately use reserved lanes to help keep Ottawa’s roads safe. This will be the focus for April.
Ottawa Accidents and Unsafe Lane changes
Unsafe lane changes caused 1,130 accidents reported in 2010, resulting in one wrongful death and 111 personal injuries.
Ottawa Accidents and Ottawa Drivers Driving in Reserved Lanes
In 2010, Ottawa motorists traveling in the reserved transit lanes caused 27 accidents which resulted in personal injuries.
The Safer Roads Ottawa Program is a partnership between Ottawa Fire Services, Ottawa Paramedic Service, Ottawa Police Service, Ottawa Public Health and the Public Works Department. They are all dedicated to preventing or eliminating road deaths and serious personal injuries for all Ottawa people , through culture change, community engagement, and development of a sustainable safe transportation environment.
I commend them on their efforts and support these amazing initiatives. Let’s all do whatever we can to help reduce the number of Ottawa accidents and personal injuries.

Steps in an Ontario personal injury lawsuit : What is a settlement conference ?
Ontario personal injury lawyer David Hollingsworth …Steps Ontario personal injury lawsuits: What is an Ontario Settlement Conference ?
Before the Ontario settlement conference, your Ontario personal injury lawyer will prepare on your behalf a settlement conference brief. The settlement brief will outline to both the judge and the insurance company what you are seeking in compensation and provide a history of your injuries. Your settlement brief outlines the evidence and why we believe you are entitled to receive maximum compensation for damages. This is sent for the judge to review prior to the settlement conference.
Your Ontario personal injury lawyer will attend the settlement conference with you. Your Ontario personal injury lawyer is there to represent you and will present your case to the Ontario court. In turn, they will counsel with you and together you can determine how you want to proceed. Often times, the insurance company will offer to settle at this stage based on what has transpired at the settlement conference. Only you and your Ontario personal injury lawyer can decide if you accept the settlement. Your Ontario personal injury lawyer will provide you with advice but ultimately the decision will be yours.

Ottawa weather: Snowfall warning Ottawa, Kanata, Orleans, Ottawa lawyer David Hollingsworth
Posted by Ottawa Personal Injury Lawyer, Ottawa Accident Lawyer, David Hollingsworth in Ottawa Car Accidents, Ottawa Injury and Accidents, safety on February 25th, 2012
Ottawa Personal Injury Lawyer David Hollingsworth…Look out Ottawa, Kanata, Orleans and everything in between. The snow is coming again. It was just starting to feel like spring and yes,…you guessed it…we are expecting close to 15 centimetres of snow today. Get your shovels out and get ready. Please make sure your walkways are clear and as safe as possible for pedestrians coming onto your property. As a property owner, you are responsible for making your property as safe as possible.
If you are planning on driving, please slow down, take the extra time to arrive safely. Winter driving conditions are very different. All vehicles take much longer to stop on snowy and icy roads. You may not see the ice but it could be there. Absolutely do not use your cruise control in wet, snowy or icy conditions. If your vehicle skids or hydroplanes, cruise control may cause your car to accelerate, which gives you less control and will impact on your reaction time and the ability to control your car. Slow down and leave yourself lots of time to stop. Giver yourself more time than usual between you and other vehicles. If you need to stop, brake gently to avoid skidding. If your wheels lock up, ease off slightly from the brake. Always drive with your headlights on. Even during the day. This gives you the best chance of being seen. Always keep your lights and windshield clean. It is safest to drive in low gears. Bridges, overpasses and side roads will freeze first in inclement weather, so use extra caution. Avoid passing any vehicles when driving in challenging weather. Its just too risky and drivers have limited visibility.
Most of all, use common sense. Just keep in mind that icy, wet and snowy conditions bring along a whole new set of challenges. Drive safely out there today Ottawa. It’s snowing lightly right now and there is more to come. Have a great, safe and happy weekend. -Ottawa personal injury lawyer David Hollingsworth
