Ottawa Police aim to reduce distracted driving and impaired driving during Road Safety Week

Ottawa Personal Injury Lawyer David Hollingsworth…Ottawa Police Service are focussing on our health and safety and aiming to help reduce Ottawa accidents.  May 15 to May 21 is Canada Road Safety Week , a week  aimed at reducing personal injuries and death caused by motor vehicle accidents . One of the key focusses is distracted driving.  Ottawa Police will be setting up an enforcement area across Ottawa involving plain clothes officers, whic has been very effective in targeting people using hand-held devices, cell phones  and other objects that can distract while driving. Another focus will be impaired driving, distracted driving, seatbelts,  child restraint use and aggressive driving.  To help reduce the number of Ottawa accidents and drunk driving accidents, the Ottawa Police will also conduct RIDE , which stands for Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere Programs during the evenings of May 17 and May 18. The RIDE Program is a provincial campaign led by the Ottawa Police  that runs all year long and involves Ottawa Police spot checks where vehicles are stopped and drivers are checked for drunk driving.

Ottawa Police is also actively engaged in another safety project that aims to reduce Ottawa accidents and personal injuries. Project E.R.A.S.E. , which stands for Eliminate Racing Activity on Streets Everywhere,  a collaborative effort of 22 police services, the Ministry of Transportation and the Ministry of the Environment .  This porject aims to reduce poor driver behavior through education and strategic enforcement. Sadly, excessive speed continues to be the leading contributing factor in fatal accidents.

We all need to do our part in driving safely and reducing the number of accidents on our roadways. Please drive safely…
