VIA Rail train accident
Ottawa Ontario Personal Injury Lawyers David Hollingsworth report on tragic train accident.
Various news sources reported of a train accident on a Via Rail route travelling Ottawa to Montreal resulted in the death of a pedestrian. The pedestrian was struck and died after being hit by the Via Rail train close to Alexandria, Ontario. The train accident occurred close to 7 am just north of Glen Robertson. No passengers travelling on the train were hurt. It is difficult to understand how these train accidents occur, however, there are just under 100 rail fatalities each year in Ontario. In 2010, 17% of rail accidents involved vehicles or pedestrians at highway-rail crossings, nearly unchanged from 18% over the previous five years. (Transportation Safety Board of Canada). With 48,000 km of railway tracks , Canada has one of the largest rail networks in the world and sadly this means more rail and train accidents. The train accident today is a terrible tragedy and my thoughts go out to the family and friends of the deceased.
