We are Ottawa personal injury lawyers and we can help.

What can our Ottawa personal injury lawyers  do for you ?

Fair question .  We receive calls from clients who are about to settle their insurance claim with their adjuster and simply want to know should they ?  It’s tough for our injury lawyers to answer this question without reviewing the file.  Typically, when we receive a call of this nature, we set up a meeting (no charge) and look through the facts of the case.  It’s important that everything be reviewing in case there have been areas of a personal injury file that were not discovered or covered by the insurance company. Almost every time, sure enough, our Ottawa injury lawyers are able to find many expenses that should have been covered or aspects of an accident benefits policy that were not being utilized .  That’s not to say that the insurance company was deliberately hiding such coverage, it’s just that often times unless the person injured knows to ask for all the right benefits and coverages, some simply do not come up.  ocf form

Ottawa injury lawyers analyze your case.  Are you getting maximum compensation for your injuries ?

Our personal injury lawyers can analyze your case and in some cases discover that the insurance claim is in fact double or triple what the insurance company is looking to settle for.  Thankfully, as long as you have not signed off on the settlement offer, there may still be time to recoup these amounts with the assistance of a personal injury lawyer.  This absolutely makes it worth while to consult with an experienced personal injury lawyer.  All it will cost you is time; probably close to an hour for this initial consultation.  Our Ottawa personal injury lawyers make it even easier and will come to you.

If we think your case is worth more, we will advise you not to settle and we can step in to represent you and prepare a claim for you.  It may delay the settlement; however this delay is in our opinion worth it as typically the settlement amount is significantly higher. Not to mention, you will be receiving benefits and treatments you may not have been receiving before our personal injury lawyers stepped in.  This will hopefully speed up your recovery process.

This is a personal injury lawyer’s job…

You owe it to yourself to consult with one of our experienced personal injury lawyers. It’s our job to ensure that our personal injury clients are receiving the best possible treatments, as well maximum compensation.  Our Ottawa personal injury lawyers understand what you are going through.  An accident can change in your life and your family’s life in many ways you never thought possible. Let us help.

Let’s eliminate dangerous driving. OPP launch Facebook site dedicated to sharing real stories of texting and driving and the dangerous outcomes.

Reduction in Ottawa accidents and the elimination of dangerous driving

Did you know that texting while driving increases your chances by more than 20 times to become involved in an accident ? The Ontario Provincial Police announced that although people who know how dangerous texting and driving is, drivers are continuing to text and drive. Sarah Anderson, of CFRA reported that the OPP have launched a new campaign  “Put Down the Phone and Leave it Alone” in an effort to educate people on the serious dangers of texting , talking and driving. One way they plan to hit home the message is to share stories publicly.  They are hoping that people will read true stories of people who have died from texting and driving or talking and driving and think twice about doing it themselves.  For example, recently a family released the final text their son wrote, which wasn’t completely finished, as he died while texting it. He was distracted and drove into oncoming traffic.

The OPP have set up a  Facebook page for such stories. They are encouraging people to contribute stories of near-misses, accidents and dangerous distracted driving. The goal is to have people rethink their own driving safety habits.

So far, there has been input from the public.  People are writing in stories that need to be shared. As an Ottawa personal injury lawyer, I sadly meet with families who have lost loved ones as a result of distracted driving.  These are senseless accidents and can absolutely be avoided.  We worry so much about new teenage drivers, it is important to note that if you have children in the car, you must lead by example.  Your children will watch what you are doing, If they learn from you that it is ok to text and drive occasionally, guess what ? They will text and drive.  Talk to your children and highlight the fact that you can’t answer your emails or text, as you are driving and driving and texting is not an option. Please, please put your devices far away from the wheel. This will avoid any temptation you may have .  If it’s far enough away, you can’t grab it.

Texting and driving has become a serious problem and we must put an end to it. Regardless of how many years you have been driving you cannot text and drive.  It takes a split second for an accident to happen. That accident could kill you, your family or someone else.  If you don’t believe me, call me and I can share some very sad stories with you.

Let’s all work together to eliminate dangerous driving. It can be done. All we have to do is change our mindsets and our habits. Drive safely !

If in an Ontario accident, do you have to provide your insurance information ?

Ontario Accident Insurance Claims

If in an accident, do you have to provide your insurance  information ?  The answer is yes. Section 200 of the Highway Traffic Act states that any person involved in an Ontario accident must, when requested, must provide his/her name, address, driver’s licence number, insurance policy information and ownership information.  This information must also be given to the police and to all witnesses or anyone else who may have been involved in the Ontario accident. Failure to comply with section 200 means that they are guilty of an offence.  On conviction , they can be fined or even imprisoned or have their licence suspended.

What you should do if someone refuses to give you their information.

Should someone refuse to give you their information, try to get as much information as possible and contact the police as soon as possible.   If the driver was uninsured , the police will have access to this type of information. Most likely, the police will charge the other driver.  In terms of Accident Benefits, you will still be covered by your own insurance company, so do not worry. Obviously it goes without saying, never attempt to be forceful with someone, simply write down what information you have and hand it over to police.

If you have been involved in an accident, it’s best you contact an Ottawa personal injury lawyer and together, you can determine what your rights are relating specifically to your accident.  Depending on the accident, nature of injuries, insurance policies and others involved, your options will vary. Experienced personal injury lawyers can help walk you through what you need to do and what you might expect in terms of rehabilitative support and compensation following an accident. Don’t think that every accident and injury is the same and just because your neighbour’s cousin was compensated a certain amount, you will be the same. You owe it to yourself to get informed.
