Cold Ottawa weather partly to blame for increase in Ottawa accidents.

Ottawa Personal Injury Lawyer David Hollingsworth…It’s not getting any warmer out there Ottawa. The temperatures have dropped yet again and it looks like there is another very cold snap settling into our city. With this cold weather comes, icy roads and Ottawa accidents. This cold winter weather is one of the causes  for hundreds of Ottawa accidents yesterday, including a multiple vehicle accident on Hwy. 417

What does this mean for you?  Well the truth is as we all know, accidents happen.  The only thing you can do is try as much as possible to prevent them from happening by slowing down, making sure your winter tires are in good shape and being extra attentive while driving in difficult conditions.  You can only control your own driving and hopefully those drivers around you do the same.  Yes, the commutes have been messy and unfortunately there seem to be more messy commutes in the days that lie ahead, as temperatures in Ottawa continue to drop. Let’s hope this extreme Ottawa weather causes people to stop and think for a minute about their driving choices.

Slow down, drive safely and arrive alive.

Completing OCF forms

Did you know that pedestrians have many rights and can be entitled to accident benefits if they are injured in an accident involving a motor vehicle?  If a pedestrian is injured and they have their own insurance policy, accident benefits can be obtained through their own insurance company. An injured pedestrian must notify their insurance company and request an Accident Benefits package.  The insurance company will then send out a package in the mail , which needs to be completed in a timely manner.  This package contains many OCF forms.  Our accident benefits specialists are available to complete these forms for you at no charge.  It’s important that all the required OCF forms be filled out and that there are no mistakes on your OCF forms.  It’s not that mistakes can’t be corrected, but they may delay the process or in extreme cases deny you of accident benefits to which you are entitled to.

Most of our personal injury clients prefer to let us complete all the OCF forms on their behalf. We can also do this for you.

Ottawa pedestrian struck Airport Parkway and rushed to Ottawa Hospital Trauma Unit.

Ottawa accident results in head injury

An Ottawa accident has left a man with a serious head injury after he was struck yesterday morning on Ottawa’s  Airport Parkway, close to Hunt Club Road. The man was described as being in his late 20s or possibly early 30s and  was walking along the parkway at the time of the accident ( 7:20 a.m.) He was rushed to the trauma unit of the Ottawa Hospital with life-threatening injuries. I hope to soon be able to report that his condition has improved.

In our personal injury practice we see the potentially life-long implications of a severe head injury.  A brain injury is an invisible injury and yet it is one of the most devastating and life-changing injuries we see in our personal injury clients.  A brain injury can completely alter someone’s personality and leave them in a state where they do not know how to control their anger and emotions. Many people don’t know how to manage themselves and often times their friends and family react the same way.  With a brain injury being an invisible injury, family and friends often think that the injuries are not that serious and that the injured is just “mad” or “unresponsive”; when in actual fact this behaviour is a direct result of a brain injury.

There are many different degrees and levels of a brain injury from mild to traumatic. What’s important to know is that if you or a loved one is suffering from a brain injury there is help and support for you and your family.  Ottawa has tremendous organisations that focus on brain injury awareness and support people with brain injuries.  Ontario Accident Benefits also provide significant benefits to people who have been in an accident in Ontario and have suffered a brain injury. No one needs to suffer with a brain injury. Our personal injury lawyers can help you not only get maximum compensation for your brain injury, but also set you up with the supports and rehabilitation you need. Let us help.
