What is chronic pain? Chronic pain often results from accidents and traumatic injuries. It can be the one of the most devastating injuries and yet it is also one of the most difficult to show. Like a brain injury, chronic pain is invisible. There are no broken bones, scars or surgeries. Also, some of the difficultly with showing chronic pain is that each individual is different and the levels of chronic pain vary significantly. Truthfully, only the individual trying to live through the chronic pain understands how difficult and painful it really is. Chronic pain can be life altering. Most of our clients suffering from chronic pain are unable to function. They cannot work and they are certainly not enjoying their quality of life. Meeting an Ottawa Personal Injury lawyer doesn’t have to be stressful.
As an Ottawa personal injury lawyer I highly recommend that if possible you bring someone you to your initial meeting with your personal injury lawyer. The reason for this is that these initial free consultations are usually packed with questions and information that is vital to your case. Often times, when I meet with new clients, I will ask the person they have brought to write information down so that later on, they are able to go over the meeting and see what was discussed, what is need for next steps and a general review of the meeting.
When people are injured in an accident, often times they have so many things rushing through their minds and so many stresses that they can often sit in a meeting and miss valuable information. I will often send my clients home with their notes and tell them to digest all the information I have given them and then email me or call me with their questions. IT’s also good to discuss what you understood with a loved one who was also there to make sure you both heard and are of the same understanding.
That’s not to say that if you come in alone, we won’t take care of you. We can write down everything for you and make sure that you receive all the information you need. Our initial meetings are usually just a chance for you to share with us the details of your accident and your injuries and then let us give you information on how best to proceed to make sure you are well taken care of.
It’s important for you to know it’s our job as Ottawa personal injury lawyers to respond to any questions or concerns. That’s what we are here for.

Slip and Fall Accident Lawyer
Good morning Ottawa ! It is cold out there today and very slippery. There is a layer of ice on the ground and its hard to see , as last night’s snow is covering the ground. This is typically when slip and fall accidents happen. With the holidays here we are all out just a little more, shopping and visiting with others and often we are carrying bags or presents. This, coupled with our weather conditions contribute to a higher incidence of slip and fall accidents. Slip and fall accidents in Canada makeup more than 50% of all personal injuries . Slip and falls accidents are the primary cause of accidents in hotels, restaurants and public buildings such as shopping malls.
As a property owner, it’s also important that you keep your property as safe as possible. This means keeping your walkways and steps clear of ice. Property owners have a “duty of care” to see that their property is reasonably safe. This not only means ensuring steps and walkways are cleared away in a reasonable manner, it also means your home doesn’t have structural defects, hazardous conditions have been addressed.
Yes, accidents do happen but many accidents are preventable. There are things you can do to lower your risk of a slip and fall accident such as watching for ice, wearing proper footwear, walking slowly, keeping your hands free in case you do fall.
Common Slip & Fall Injuries include:
- Back Pain
- Broken Bones
- Brain Injury
- Degenerative Disc Disease
- Carpel Tunnel Syndrome
- Bulging Discs
- Soft Tissue Injuries
- Pain and Suffering
- Spinal Injuries
Although a slip and fall accident doesn’t seem as serious as a car accident, some injuries are more serious and can leave an individual with a lifetime of pain and a decreased quality of life. Some people suffer such serious injuries from a slip and fall accident, that they are unable to return to work.
Financial compensation for slip and fall accidents
If you have suffered from a slip & fall accident you may be entitled to maximum compensation for your pain and suffering, loss of income and health costs, depending on whether or not you are able to establish negligence. This is where our Ottawa personal injury lawyers excel. We have helped thousands of people and we can help you with your slip and fall accident and make sure you are well taken care of now and in the future.

Concussions Injury Compensation Ontario.
I have had so many people come to me after a car accident in Ontario and they have no visible signs of an injury, yet they are suffering. After I hear about their day in and day out activities, it becomes quite apparent to me that they are suffering from a severe concussion. Concussions are a type of brain injury. Although there is not always a blow to the head, a head injury can be equally or more painful. In many cases, accident victims with severe concussions are not able to return to work or their everyday activities such as concentrating, remembering , or even simple tasks such as getting groceries or mowing the lawn. Suddenly noises, vibrations and lighting prevent them from any quality of life. No two concussions are alike and the effects suffered by brain injury victims will be different. The brain is one of the most complex organs in the body which controls all of the body’s functions. When these bodily functions are compromised, accident victims can suffer physically, mentally, and emotionally.
There has been a rise in public awareness when it comes to concussions. It was previously believed that small blows to the head had little impact on one’s brain health. Now, however through research, we know that these impacts can result in brain injury.
As an Ottawa personal injury lawyer I find this development in research to be amazing. With the new technology developed to test for concussions and brain injuries, I am able to help my clients get identified and get the medical help they need in a timely manner. After that, I am able to help them get the maximum financial compensation for their concussion injury.
Concussion symptoms ….
- Trouble with memory
- Temporary loss of consciousness
- Slurred speech
- Ears ringing
- Unusual fatigue
When someone suffers from a concussion, it is important that I work closely with their family and healthcare practitioners to ensure that we are keeping a close eye and making sure to note any changes or triggers with their concussion. Coping with the needs of a brain injury victim is extremely difficult for everyone involved.
Concussion injuries can be life changing
A severe concussion is life altering for everyone involved. I understand the pain and frustration involved when someone suffers a severe concussion. I have been able to put many things in place and help secure my clients financial futures as many have been unable to return to work.
In Ontario, people who have suffered a brain injury as a result of an Ontario car accident are entitled to compensation for their losses from their own insurance company. Insurance companies must pay for accident benefits for such things as lost income and housekeeping, medical bills and rehabilitation. There are time limits in Ontario when it comes to applying for Ontario accident benefits. Some insurance companies will deny a claim, even if the insurance policy covers the entitled to Ontario accident benefits. This is where personal injury lawyers can really make the difference. An experienced Ontario personal injury lawyer will step in and represent you. The best Ontario personal injury lawyers will ensure you are getting ALL of the accident benefits you are entitled to and make sure that you and your family are taken care of in the years to come. Insurers often deny accident benefits they are supposed to pay out on. Every concussion and brain injury is different and therefore every Ontario accident claim is unique.
If you have suffered a concussion or if a friend or family member is suffering from a severe concussion, we understand and can help you. We can’t undo the damage that has been done, but we can help you get much needed resources that can help you regain control of your life. Your quality of life is extremely important; not only for you but for your family. Your concussion may get worse, but hopefully it will get better. We can help you along the way. Hang in there and let us help !
Ottawa Accident Report
Ottawa Police are planning to make improvements to their accident reporting system. The accident reporting process should then be faster, safer, and more efficient due to the new technology being used as well as designated Collision Reporting Centres (CRC) in Ottawa.
Motorists who are involved in accidents and who have not suffered injuries and have a vehicle that can still be driven will be able to attend one of the three designated reporting centres (open 7 days a week ) . The accident report will need to be filed within 24 hours. Ottawa’s 3 reporting centres will be located at 474 Elgin Street, 211 Huntmar Drive and 3343 St. Joseph Boulevard.
On average, it takes 32 minutes before an available officer arrives on an Ottawa accident scene and the accident reporting process takes approximately 72-minutes. Now, with the new system in place, the process will be quicker it will also alleviate traffic around the accident. Now under the new system, Ottawa accidents will be submitted electronically which will not only save time, it will save money , dropping the cost of each report $249 to $167.
If you plan on starting a personal injury lawsuit, you will need a police report. Our lawyers can order a copy for you if you do not have a copy. Contact an Ottawa personal injury lawyer for a free consultation and let us help you get all the supports and compensation you are entitled to.
Ottawa Bicycle Accident Lawyer David Hollingsworth.. I recently found a great website : Citizens for Safe Cycling . It’s a website dedicated to Ottawa cyclists. It is filled with all sorts of information that relate to Ottawa bicycle safety, events for Ottawa cyclists and Ottawa cycling news and projects. One of the articles on the site dealt with cyclists getting “doored”. The following are tips I found on this site for both Ottawa drivers and Ottawa cyclists on avoiding a cycling accident.
One of the safest ways to avoid an accident is to ride your bicycle at least one metre away from other vehicles. That is the best way to prevent getting injured by having a door open in your face. A car door can spring open in a second. If a cyclist is passing by at that very moment, it’s almost impossible avoiding being hit by the door, resulting in you. This type of bicycle accident is far to common in Ottawa and a major cause of downtown cycling accidents. These cycling accidents can be avoided.
Ottawa drivers and Ottawa cycling accidents:
Everyone is responsible on the road. As a driver, you are responsible for checking for oncoming traffic. This includes cyclists. They are much smaller than a car and therefore harder to see; however, before opening your car door, you must thoroughly check for any oncoming traffic. If you fail to do so and it results in an accident, you will be charged under section 165 of the Highway Traffic Act.
Ottawa cyclists and Ottawa cycling accidents:
The best way to avoid a cycling accident is to remain out of the door zone which about one metre away from a car. Also cyclist should avoid passing on the right if there’s not enough space to pass. Cyclist should always use extra space in the lane in order to stay away from the cars, even if it means that you hold up traffic or force them to pass you outside of the lane. If you need to move left to do this, remember to always signal and shoulder check first.
It’s practically impossible for cyclists to see ahead of time whether a vehicle door is going to open. Tinted windows and high headrests make it extremely difficult to see from behind if a car is occupied, and a door could fly open at any given moment.
Cycling is such a great activity and means of transportation around Ottawa. Let’s all work to gether to reduce the number of Ottawa cycling accidents and deaths related to cycling accidents this spring and summer. Happy and safe cycling Ottawa !
